The Framework Laptop 16 will have in-house support and installation guides for Fedora! With its AMD CPU and GPU you will be teed up for success on Linux.
After 2+ years of work she's ready for Beta. (Re)Announcing https://projectbluefin.io - our take at the next generation #linux desktop. Built on #fedora with Universal Blue.
We're striving to build the world's best cloud native developer workstation (and she's great for general usage too). She has a mission and a purpose. Find me at #KubeCon for the demo on my #framework. Tell a friend! (reshares appreciated!)
And I've got a Surface build just for you @squillace
I’ve written down most of what I’ve learned about xcframeworks into this blog post. I hope it can be a one-stop shop to answer all your practical questions, including:
Which JavaScript framework for the web frontend is the smallest, fastest, and best overall? If it's not listed, please mention it as a comment and why 🧑💻 → pls boost this toot :BoostOK:
We follow a philosophy of "Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle." Reuse what you can't reduce, repair what you can't reuse, and treat recycling as a final fallback for when you can't make a product last longer: https://frame.work/blog/reduce-reuse-repair-recycle#framework
Maybe I'm an old grumpy #tech guy, but I really don't like massive complicated frameworks that abstract away well known protocols like #HTTP, #GRPC, etc.
I already know those, I can easily write code that does those, why do I have to learn the convoluted #framework way of doing things that would be 10 seconds work if I could just access the basic http library underneath?
I have a kid headed off to college who wants a @frameworkcomputer DIY 13" system to run @fedora on while studying CS. ❤️
What are the tradeoffs between the Intel and AMD variants, specifically for running Linux, specifically the next-generation systems (13th Gen Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 7040 Series) currently available for pre-order?
Webcam? (I don't know whether Frame.work are using Intel's proprietary, closed-source, non-upstreamed webcam implementation on their Alder/Raptor Lake systems.)
Battery life?
Performance?
Other technical considerations?
JTBC I'm not looking for anti-Intel or anti-AMD comments, just technical information, with a focus on good support from a fully open source install.
In this one, we have the Cyber Resiliency Act, a new EU set of regulations that might seriously harm Open Source software, we have repairable laptops from #Framework and (in the future) from #Lenovo, and we have some big performance improvements for #Intel GPUs on Linux:
From this point forward I try to move forward with environmental and Right-To-Repair conscious decisions.
I've bought a #Framework laptop and a #Fairphone last year and will continue to invest my money into tech and companies which go against the stream and actually make decent devices that are pro-user.
Maybe I will start a little list to collect the companies and products which one can use as replacement for environmental, RtR and privacy aware users.
Now, I am realizing it is becoming quite cumbersome to maintain and to adapt to the changeable nature of my craziness. Code is messy and probably a bit bloated, I am not so expert or have enough time to work on improving the performance…
maybe it is time to start using a framework or something, but I have no idea about this stuff. My only imperatives are not to have any front end #JavaScript and have as little abstraction as possible. I would just like to make my life easier and keep the development of my personal website a fun thing to do rather than a stressful chore.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Please feel free to digress, I am eager to learn about the topic.
#Framework's expansion cards give so much flexibility, sometimes in unexpected ways:
I worked in a family member's office this weekend. Their laptop has the HDMI port on the right side, so the monitor cable sits on the right ready to be plugged in. On my @frameworkcomputer laptop I happen to have the HDMI port on the left.
Instead of trying to snake the stiff short HDMI cable to the left side, I swapped the expansion cards so the HDMI was on the right and plugged in without a fight.
Awesome news! Bluefin and Bazzite are now community supported Linux offerings for @frameworkcomputer laptops!
Congrats to @UniversalBlue for the achievement. 👏👏👏 We're glad to see that our work with Framework and in Fedora Atomic Desktops is enabling other communities to thrive!
Framework users - for those of you wanting to run Fedora or Ubuntu, please check out @frameworkcomputer's official guides on how to install those distros. It may seem straightforward, but those guides have been put together by the Framework Linux team to help you with the installation.
If you're trying to install Fedora on a Framework laptop and run into problems, try installing with their guide. They want you to succeed!
#WikipediaDay in NYC has started with @fuzheado explaining how the Statue of Liberty was also crowdsourced (the stained glass just so happens to be in the other room)

The Brave web browser has carved out a niche over the past few years as an alternative to Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and other mainstream web browsers. Some of that has come from its marketing as a privacy-preserving web browser, and it has also been repeatedly evangelized by cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
