My quick reaction on after one day -

No shocker - I hate the way it incorporates with the as a whole and, at least currently, feels like it's working in (ish) bad faith.. that may change, but for now they are simply using us as potential eyeballs to boost their engagement numbers (esp for their "big accounts")

BUT...

From my experience, it beats the absolute pants off of in terms of actual "topic" interaction

..and the few "big accounts" there feel like NFL strike replace players from years ago

It will all get really interesting if Bluesky corp funding dries up and AT Protocol (which is currently only Bluesky from what I can tell) has to develop on its own merit like ActivityPub does...

There are toxic folk here for sure, but the majority seem to leave quickly because of a smaller userbase, domain blocking, and unwillingness to "feed" them.

I have a small but great handful of folks I'm quite active here with .. it's sadly reduced over the last year, but the interaction here for me has always been more positive as a whole.. think I'll hang a round a bit longer.. 😂

It's amazing that you can still learn seemingly obvious things as an adult

For example : never buy a sectional

..because if half the sectional shits the bed and your genius idea of "just use the other half of until it breaks down as well" is poorly received by your spouse, you have to replace the entire thing ...

Side note - My dream casting for Sinister is Robert Sheehan .. I want a flamboyant Mister Sinister... That just doesn't feel like Epsosito for me, so I'ma bit biased

As for Giancarlo - I know the rumor is Sasha Baron Cohen (who is confirmed for Ironheart) was cast for Mephisto, but Mephisto feels more like a Blade nemesis...

The thing that bums me out most about the #Fediverse is the high churn rate

There's a combination of reasons for that of course, but the end result is still a loss of lots of engaging people with interesting things to say and that sucks

..but I do think one big elephant in the room has been the Fediverse gained near zero long-term adoption with "big accounts", and even only a handful of "niche notable" ones

The reasons for that are many, starting of course with the authentic approach toward decentralization. I'm 💯 in on it, but it's been a hard universal selling point

I know my old Twitter group is sticking more and more with Bluesky so far. I hate that, but their reasons make perfect sense to them

I personally don't see long-term "real" decentralization via ATProto due to its Relay layer, unless advertising is interjected by those that want to operate them:

My circle here is still as great as ever.. just condensing..

I have a deep belief that this place IS gonna thrive long-term.. but the "social media" first aspect kind obfuscates the fact that the Fediverse doesn't have to be "social media only"

Social media has proven to work best as a facilitator to interaction (on ideas) IMO, not a primary.

We got plenty of time.. 😄

the Fediverse and ActivityPub thrives eventually..

Mastodon will be an afterthought...

Mastodon helped grease the wheels for ActivityPub adoption, but (honestly) isn't remotely close to the best version of social media in regards to the way it should work in the entire Fediverse...

Especially in regards to the way it works with non-Mastodon actors in accordance with the ActivityPub standard

It's not nearly the end game

If they position thr software to be better accepting of non-Mastodon actors and clients, they could definitely be "it"... Absolutely!

As long as they remain agile.. which is definitely hard to do once you get a footprint
