..the most disappointing part about dipping my toes into #BlueSky...

Several of the "more popular" folk that had seemingly migrated to the #fediverse from #Twitter are now much less active here and posting like crazy on BlueSky

My take? They were never looking for #community - they were simply trying to get ahead of the next big thing. They signed up for #Mastodon and didn't hit a home run so now they are fishing again..

..this upcoming #Meta release is gonna fudge with 'em good..

Been a busy week #coding on my #fediverse client. I finally have my #python #framework (#Jenkwerx) doing exactly what it's supposed to so I've been preparing to follow my first user - me on #Mastodon!

..but I pushed pause because, while my inbox is rocking, I don't have my #ActivityPub outbox set up to process from a queue yet (it's still sending love). 😞 So back to unsexy "proper #code logic" for a bit..

..still confident I'll be following a few folks by Sunday tho - ugly test attached! 😆

It's been a lot, and I'm kinda burning all my free time on it.. still not 100% sure why.. 😆

But i do have some ideas for myself on how to make it much more useful for the way I enjoy consuming information that will be built right into the app

Also allowing for multiple domains names to "share" the universe or silo off, so technically a user could "bring their own domain", which could go a long way in helping "identity ownership" concerns (esp if you keep the same actor URL)

Going to formally follow some accounts with my homegrown #fediverse app this week!

Been focused on building out the #database / blob storage properly, capturing and authenticating #activitypub messages I receive and updating my homegrown #python #framework (I'm referring to as #Jenkwerx)

I'm FINALLY at a point we're I am allowing myself to formally log in, which means I can automate activities instead of faking them

Really excited to build out some fedi ideas for my online #game and beyond!

Boring personal #fediverse project update:

Capturing+validating/invalidating requests, so onto processing!

Learning more about how the #Mastodon actor files can vary versus other clients

For example preferredUsername in the #Mastodon actor record is unique per instance and ties to #webfinger but there is no guarantee of uniqueness or existence per #activitypub docs

So I'll be storing by actor URI and trying to tie back to the webfinger format for "pretty ID name" when possible

I’ve taken to referring to this Fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey, Friendica, etc.) as the “ActivityPub Fediverse” to differentiate it from the fediverse that will eventually arise from the AT Protocol, which I guess would be the “AT Fediverse,” or something like that.

..the 2 easiest account mutes I end up throwing out multiple times on the daily -

  • People who #advertise their same #podcast episode by bombing #hashtags I follow multiple days in a row - I'm much more likely to listen (and not mute your account) if you sound less thirsty 🤷‍♂️

  • People who post their #Wordle results daily without a #CW - no, I don't care about Wordle... but if you don't care enough to consider that a lot of people here do then no telling what you may not #CW in the future

But yea - some people will just post like a 5/6 wordle result and be like "tricky today!"

it's like being told before you see a movie "oh you'll love the twist in it!". The point isn't the results, it's the experience...

I actually enjoy seeing wordles behind CWs of people I follow... Sometimes I even respond.

I play wordle while eating breakfast with the wife... Nice little routine even though neither of us are overly invested in the outcome 🙂

..that's dealers call there.. I mean maybe, but I wouldn't throw a mute for that ..

Generally it's the yellow/green block progression that gets me... It's obvious even on a "quick scroll"; sometimes I just stop on random messages on a timeline to see "what's happening in the fediverse".. those visual blocks on a dark theme background fo a great job of drawing your eyes to them 😆

Congrats! My strategy has changed over the year and I've finally got a good groove that gets me more 3's than 5's.. flipped mine recently as well! that definitely wasn't the case for a while!

Used to try and be clever with those 4 vowel starting words but because their order is kinda wonky it left too many consonants...

We used to play Crosswordle and Waffle as well but I kinda got bored of those... Wordle is kinda that perfect "not too much time, not too much energy, but still a tad strategic" game for the morning; kudos to the guy who nailed the formula

Bluesky's terms of use state: "We may terminate or suspend, in whole or in part, your access to and use of the Services, including suspending access to or terminating your ACCOUNT".

This is a very odd policy for a company that trumpets nomadic identity as its killer feature.

I mean, that's the whole reason why Bluesky built a whole new protocol instead of using ActivityPub, right?

If Bluesky can suspend your account without notice, what's the point?

Was reflecting back on my use of the #internet and #socialmedia

Along my path I descended into a bad pattern of over consumption, #fomo, even #follow chasing.. being on every big platform was (in hind site pathetically) a priority

Over the last several months, things changed. So much so #Mastodon is now my only social #phone app; wasn't my intent but it's not coincidence

My posts are now less often and more "me".. I respond more often..

Sometimes ya gotta slow down to move forward..

I love that I can post comic book stuff, coding and development stuff, guinea pig pics, crappy horror movie thoughts, and just random observations and get a nice ebb and flow of current and new friends to interact with.. and almost always in good faith without someone trying to "one up" or "hot take" respond to try and score the elusive "ratio"

Previously it seemed like it required hyperfocusing on one thing and even then getting any real interaction was difficult
