The more I look at the BlueSky documentation and try to make sense of their proprietary jargon, the more my head hurts.

It just doesn't make any sense to me how this is different from ActivityPub and how BlueSky doesn't control what federates.

I keep seeing people say it's decentralized, but if they can control who federates with bsky.app then is it really decentralized since that's where the vast majority would be anyways?

What the hell am I missing? Yeah, you have more control as a user, but that doesn't tell me a damn thing or connect their PDS, DID, NSID jargon to anything that makes sense to me. Maybe I'm just too dumb to understand this and that's fine.

Fediverse is where I want to be anyway. I just thought it might be interesting to try it out but if I don't understand it, then it's not really worth it.

It seems this happens occasionally on #fedi where malicious users decide to take advantage of instances with poor moderation to spam widely.

There are many solutions, but let me offer a simple change that stops spam dead in its tracks:

#nodebb has a post queue built in. If you have 0 reputation, you need your post to be manually approved. You can adjust this as needed, but even the default (allow regular posting after 1 upvote) is sufficient. Stops 👏spam 👏 cold 👏.

It's disappointing to me that the #blogger folk I interact with personally that use #Wordpress seem to have zero interest in adding the #fediverse component to it

Many still feel social media traumatized from the massive scrum "exodus attempts" back in late 2022; the mention of #Mastodon still paralyzes most of them

I think I'll try ignoring the social media aspects of the Fediverse and try the "bring you #blog together with others" angle and see if that works going forward... 🤷

Here's what I learned about opening a second #Mastodon account recently:

Finding a tribe here has gotten harder. I was part of the "November 2022 rush" and it was like speed dating. A lot of my new friends didn't stick but enough did that I got traction.

What worked then doesn't work now.. at all.

So if you are a "new person" looking for interaction - #follow me and I'll follow ya back as long as you're not an incel. Tag me and I'll respond.

I still want the #fediverse to work for everyone.
