For those in Oz with a penchant for folk-horror, I noticed last night that SBS On Demand currently has the classic 1973 original of 'The Wicker Man' available.
It expires a month from now, so be sure to take a trip to Summerisle before then, otherwise their apple crops may fail once more... 😉
We have just 7 days left of the kickstarter to reach our target. I am so grateful for all of the support I've received so far. Together, we can make the second series a reality!
If it sounds like the kind of thing you might enjoy, you can get it as a paperback and ebook from most of the usual places. Links here! https://sarah-i-jackson.ghost.io/writing/
Today, May 1, 1973, Police Sergeant Neil Howie finds that he is unable to leave remote Hebridean island Summerisle. The island residents celebrate May Day with pagan rituals (The Wicker Man, 1973)
We are in our second week of fundraising for series 2! It's wonderful to know we could bring this to life. Please share as widely as you can, and if you can, pledge as every little helps. We need to hit 100% of our goal to make this a reality.
I've written all about my motivations, inspirations and excitement for the second series of The Best of Men. If you'd like to know more about the story, why I want to create this series and the folklore that inspired it click below-
Kickstarter update!
Thank you to everyone who has supported! We are so close to our first mini target of £1,500- 20% of our overall goal. Please share widely and let people know about the project. Also, if you're able to pledge the kickstarter, it is below
We have a dark electronica double whammy this week, with the arrival of Pye Corner Audio's 'The Endless Echo' from Ghost Box, and The Night Monitor's 'Horror of the Hexham Heads' from Library of the Occult.
Nightmares on wax...👀

The kickstarter for Season 2 is now live! There are a range of great rewards for backers, including signed script books and a chance to be in the drama. This series is an expanded exploration of the folklore of Shropshire and its eponymous Owd Scratch. Please share as widely as possible and donate if you can so we can continue the story!
ALL YOU NEED IS DEATH is a folk horror movie of Atmosphere. If you expect everything presented/explained neatly, you may be frustrated- but there IS a logic here, of murder ballads & fairy tales. If you want a well crafted, creepy, unique film about the enigma & power of songs, you'll dig its vibe.
It's officially 1 year since 'The Best of Men' was released! I've been blown away by the love and support for this, my little folk horror. Thank you all! And if you've still not listened, you can find it here
The #horror#podcast I guested on just dropped! It's a discussion about #FolkHorror / #UrbanWyrd & what defines it, and about how it often pushes up against #CosmicHorror. Give it a listen for a bunch of great film/book recs. You also get to hear my voice (VERY weird, for me)
Peculiarly Friendly/Unfriendly Locals! Noises from the Woods! A Fire-Lit Procession! A Notable Lack of Modern Technology! Little Figures Made from Twigs! Goats!
My Internet/WiFi was supposed to be down all day but I am happy to report it is back up. Which is kind of pointless, since I'm planning on working on Art, but it IS nice to know it will be available while I'm Zoom-ing for the podcast I'll be on later today.
(Oh, yeah, I'm going to be a guest on a #podcast about #FolkHorror! It's being recorded today, but will be uploaded sometime soon.) @horror
For anyone in the mood for a bit of urban folk horror based around the legendary British public information films of the 70s, I have a new novella coming out called Charlie Says. It'll be published by the wonderful Black Shuck Books on Feb 29th, but it's available for pre-order now.
More skeletal trees as Black Metal typography. Photos treated using Midjourney AI. These begin to morph into symbolic shapes. The sense of ominous stillness, and languages not forged by humans, is at once very Weird Lit, and the distillation of the Black Metal vibe that band logotypes strive toward.
Wishing all our fellow Mastodonians a happy Winter Solstice and a very Merry Christmas. The latest blog post, 'New Towns, Mountains and Other Moons', is a whistle stop tour of our favourite words & music from 2023. You can read it, and listen to some musical highlights, here...
