Got my Special Edition Blu-ray of THE BORDERLANDS (AKA FINAL PRAYER in the U.S.) from Second Sight Films and it is GORGEOUS. It comes with 6 art cards and a 70 page book with a bunch of essays about the film. 😍
Take your literary criticism a step past "the death of the author" to "the afterlife of the author" with this example of a student paper at The House of Forbidden Knowledge!
A solar eclipse means it's a new moon, and a new moon means it's time for the new moonthly study guide. Check out the latest one to make sure you haven't missed any classes or important school updates!
Need to get in the mood for tomorrow's #SolarEclipse? Let me suggest some #HorrorShorts to watch (from my #Lovecraftian#CosmicHorror#ShortFilm Fest from last August). In particular, I would recommend, "Don't Look At the Moon" -- and remember -- Don't look at the the Moon and Sun without ISO-certified glasses!
It's Gemma Files' birthday and she is my favorite of my Unholy Trinity of Cosmic Horror Writers. (The other two are Langan & Barron, btw. I still have to check out Evenson, and Ligotti is great but a tad too depressing 😆)
Give her a birthday gift (and do yourself a huge favor) by picking up ANY of these fantastic, dark books that will linger in your mind and fester.
Laird Barron a jeho pocta Lovecraftovi, který ho očividně velmi ovlivnil. Nejedná se však o nějakou vykrádačku, fan-fikci apod., ne, Barron má svůj styl a píše mu to skvělé. Chcete akci a potoky krve? V tom případě jste na špatné adrese. Tady jde hlavně o hutnou a temnou atmosféru říznutou okultismem, špetkou konspiračních teorií, surreálna a kosmickým hororem
The #horror#podcast I guested on just dropped! It's a discussion about #FolkHorror / #UrbanWyrd & what defines it, and about how it often pushes up against #CosmicHorror. Give it a listen for a bunch of great film/book recs. You also get to hear my voice (VERY weird, for me)
Starting in just a minute over at https://www.twitch.tv/chilliteracy Sam will be reading the next part of The House on the Borderland, William Hope Hodgson's claustrophobic cosmic horror. Head on over now! @bookstodon
As both Brood XIII and Brood XIX are emerging in late April/early May of this year, you'll want to pick this up and get it down you before then so you'll know how to ward them off/welcome them appropriately, whichever applies.
72 storylets in 90-100 days. You can do it. Best get it taken care of before you run out of time.
"I am lost! Somebody possesses my soul and governs it! Somebody orders all my movements, all my thoughts. I am no longer master of myself, nothing except an enslaved and terrified spectator.... I wish to go out; I cannot. HE does not wish to."
I made a banner for my #CosmicHorror#dnd campaign using Canva. Nothing super fancy because I prefer simplicity, but I like it. The red has a narrative importance - it's the color associated with the big bad, an ancient starspawn seeking to conquer the multiverse for its dreadful Great Old One creator.
We've been lurking for awhile. Time for a proper introduction. We are a speculative fiction magazine with a focus on telling alien stories. The more alien to a human perspective the better. Sci-fi, fantasy, horror, surrealism, lovecraaftian cosmic horror: bring it all.
We release two issues per year--on each equinox--via our website.
We will post here about issue releases, stories, and open submission periods (January and July generally).
「 If World of Horror could be reduced to a single word, it’d be “dread.” It's a point-and-click cosmic horror game created by Polish developer and dentist, Pawel Kozminski (also known as Panstasz). And after spending years in early access, Ysbryd Games finally released it to the public this month on Steam, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch. It was well worth the wait 」 https://www.engadget.com/world-of-horror-is-a-skin-crawling-dread-machine-that-does-its-inspirations-proud-183000816.html
