As I work today I'm listening to the soundtrack from the 1982 Conan the Barbarian film that was composed by Basil Poledouris. Things are feeling fairly barbaric at the moment here in the Arizona desert

We have a dark electronica double whammy this week, with the arrival of Pye Corner Audio's 'The Endless Echo' from Ghost Box, and The Night Monitor's 'Horror of the Hexham Heads' from Library of the Occult.

The songs on the 1987 animated movie The Chipmunk Adventure really have no business being so good! “Off To See The World”, “The Girls of Rock ’n Roll”, “Diamond Dolls”, “My Mother”, and “Chipmunk Adventure Theme” are just some of the songs that I really enjoy and give a hit of childhood nostalgia.

John Williams is among 19 new members of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The 92-year-old composer has won five of the 53 Oscars he was nominated for, and also conducted the Boston Pops for more than a decade and has composed classical concertos. Here's a story from ABC on Williams and the other 18 inductees to the Academy of Arts this year, which included composer Terence Blanchard, novelist Alice McDermott and artist Matthew Barney. We want to know, which is your favorite of these (some answers are movies and others are franchises where more appropriate).

A plurality of our poll voters say "Star Wars" is their favorite John Williams score, with "Indiana Jones" and "Jurassic Park" coming second and third. Some beloved movies we omitted from the poll include "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Harry Potter." @retrosponge made the point that the "Jaws" theme is so ingrained that we still understand cultural references to it 50 years later. And indeed, our kids — far too young to have watched the movie — say "dun dun... dun dun" for references to sharks and/or scary things. Williams is up for yet another Oscar at this year's ceremony for his "Indiana Jones" score. Here's a story from @TheConversationUS about his amazing career.

Father/son music night, and the boy got to pick tonight’s two albums while we play Ticket To Ride.

Again… HIS choice.
And quite the interesting choice it was. He chose Waxwork Records’ reissues of the first two Friday The 13th .

He’s never seen any of the films, and he won’t ever. He hates horror movies. However, he loves good music. And he recognizes just how cool Harry Manfredini’s scores are.

you say? Well hoo boy do I have a pick for this week's !

Megaman Zero 2's intro track "Departure" will likely forever be my go-time hype track, because I really don't find anything much more inspiring than a tired warrior wandering through the wilderness - fighting for what he believes in until his body literally gives out.

It's not every day that a show, presumably for a YA audience, hits it out of the park. Am having a lot of fun watching The Boardiing School: Las Cumbres. It's dark, its mysterious, moody and intriguing.
Troubled teens who are so much trouble nobody else will take them are sent to this place. They're in an old and isolated boarding school, sits isolated on top of a cliff with rules that are far too rigid and mean. There are secrets everywhere. Monks in white robes roam the halls. People disappear (some show up dead), and there are mysteries, ravens, dark woods and ancient texts. After watching several episodes, I'm still not sure if this is going in a supernatural direction, or it's about people doing weird cultish things.
The storytelling is quite good, characters are fairly well developed.
And if you #orchestral #soundtracks, there's a lot of really nice music by composer Victor Reyes.
This is a show from Brazil and has subtitles. I stumbled into it on Prime.
