Nagrodą jest kod na audiobook lub ebook (do wyboru) zbioru opowiadań "Coś fantastycznego" nakładem EmpikGo na platformie Virtual.Trzeba będzie tam mieć albo założyć konto, by skorzystać z kodu.

I really like my eReader - I much prefer eBooks over printed books - but it would be even better if:
it had a USB-C charger
it was FOSS
it didn't have an integrated store, or "phone home" functionality
I am not really in the market for another eReader, as mine works, but if anyone knows of a good eReader which supports loads of formats, has a FOSS stack, and charges via USB-C, please do feel free to say!

Friends who write programming books - what do you use to put together your digital books? Over the years I’ve tried many tools, from Pages, through Google Docs, to #Obsidian.
Even though I like Obsidian as a vault of technical notes, it’s still hard to get the last mile - there is no default Table of Contents generator and very little in the form of #ebook formatting options. I used to use #leanpub for turning my #markdown files into a coherent book, but it’s way too many extra steps
Does anyone know good resources to make an #ePub readable on every reader? It looks great on Calibre viewer, awful on #Kobo, and can't be opened by #Kindle Previewer…

If an #ebook subscription service sounds like it might be for you, please consider supporting one that isn't owned by #Amazon, that exploits its dominant position to force authors into exclusivity deals preventing their work from being available elsewhere. There are alternatives to #KindleUnlimited, including (but not limited to) #KoboPlus. @bookstodon
To już piąta część przygód pani komisarz Leny Rudnickiej (niedawno została wydana szósta) i powiem szczerze, że zaczynam widzieć pewne wejście w schemat. Nie to, żeby mnie to raziło, ale jednak odrobinę rozczarowuje. Co nie zmienia faktu, że to nadal dobra książka dla kryminałolubisiów.

Specifically I am asking about the #eBook version: Is this an abridged version or not? 892 pages seems a very low pint number for three #books, but everyone is saying that abridged books have that "feature" clearly marked.

Does an freedom respecting #eink#ebook reader exist? I want to load books I buy on the computer on the reader and just read them there. I don’t need sync so I do not want cloud. Being able to rsync files via ssh would be 10/10. @fsf maybe?
I do not need to start a new project to write a #Calibre#ebook plugin for @bookwyrm. I just don't. I have too much going on.
But I want such a plugin. And (famous last words) "how hard can it be?"
Oh, apparently it requires writing an API first (https://github.com/bookwyrm-social/bookwyrm/issues/785), and then learning how Calibre plugins work (e.g. by pulling apart the #Goodreads plugin).
Oh gosh this feels so overwhelming. Nope, I'm not doing this. Not yet. No#ADHD, this is not the thing to hyper-focus on today!
This #ebook about #opensource software cannot be opened by open source software, but only in Amaz•n's proprietary Kindle app #DRM, which isn't available for the OS I use; Linux.
It's the only reason I didn't buy it yet. I sure hope this Kindle-exclusivity is not going to be a trend.

My beloved gen 1 Paperwhite #kindle died and I've chosen to replace it with a Kobo Libra 2 and start to escape the Amazon #ebook ecosystem. I've already dedrmd all my existing purchases.
Ironically I had to buy my Kobo from Amazon, only place with any stock.
