“People like Nanny Ogg turn up everywhere. It’s as if there’s some special morphic generator dedicated to the production of old women who like a laugh and aren’t averse to the odd pint, especially of some drink normally sold in very small glasses. You find them all over the place, often in pairs.”

So #Modiphius have announced they are making a new #Discworld tabletop #RPG, which is two of my worlds colliding. The old GURPS-based one was last published in 2016.
I’ve only played or read a few 2d20 games and I’m not sure it’s a good fit for Discworld. Then again, while 2d20 has mostly been used for games with a heavy action and combat element (Conan, Fallout, Dune), the system could be tweaked to de-emphasise that. But I do think simpler and narrative-first would be best. (1/3)
The first #Discworld RPG in nearly three decades is on the way.
Terry #Pratchett’s Discworld series has been a fantasy mainstay in books for decades. So it’s odd that there haven’t been attempts to adapt it into a role-playing game, especially given its wealth of characters, species, settings, and deep satire.
"The pen might not be mightier than the sword, but maybe the printing press was heavier than the siege weapon. Just a few words can change everything ..."
– Terry Pratchett, Monstrous Regiment (Discworld #31)

"All in all, the effect was not of a poodle, but of malformed poodlosity. That is to say, everything about it suggested 'poodle' except for the whole thing itself, which suggested walking away.

Hope you're all having an amazing love-filled day (not like that. mind in the gutter, some people, I swear to Offler)
In my #Discworld re-read, I finished Thud the other day. Okay, well, more like a week ago.
Not a big fan of this novel. Terry has clearly moved on from spoofing to serious drama but in a world where technological progress is both rapid and has a persistent kind of we-don't-call-it-magic magic that drives things. Thus the imps in cameras and Vimes' personal organiser and creatures like golems and vampires.
Koom Valley could've remained a Noodle Incident and I'm sure a lot of Discworld fans would've accepted that. That was probably my disappointment with the novel the first time I read it. This time, though, I'm not so sure. Having it all sorted out because of Vimes is actually pretty much in character for Sir Samuel. The novel lampshades this a couple of different ways. People who know of Sam know he's like this. Some of them even figure out how to manipulate him, too. which is something Sam is very aware happens.
It's been said elsewhere that all the dwarf tunnels under Ankh-Morpork were partly a setup for creating an underground rail system in the city. We see a hint of that possibility in Unseen Academicals with mentions of public transport. But a subway system did not eventuate in a novel before Terry passed away.
I'm probably going to slow down once more now that I'm on the home stretch. Most of the novels in this last tranche I have only read once, mostly because of how recent they are plus that I'm no longer a prolific reader and haven't been for at least a decade. And I have other things to read, too.

A pointy rock with a selection of alpine mosses, imitating the snow capped mountains behind it. Made me think of the bonsai mountains of #discworld 😍
The mountain in the background is Ōpuke (Mt Hutt).
On a bit of a #Discworld movies tip at the moment.
Watched The Amazing Maurice last weekend (which was fine, not amazing), Going Postal last night (thoroughly enjoyable, heartily recommend), and The Colour of Magic tonight (ten minutes in, have no opinion yet).
