Back in 2011, I was dating an attractive young woman who told me she didn't play #DnD, but wanted to show me her D&D set. Weirdly, it was the 1977 "Holmes Edition" #BasicDnD set.
"What's weird about that," you ask? Reader, my girlfriend was born in 1981. How does a non-gaming Millennial start her #ttrpg collection with a box four years older than herself?
What can I say? I'm obsessed with #dice, almost as much as I am with #PlayingCards. #RPG (#TTRPG) have been such a huge part of my life since 1977 that, naturally, I have a good, healthy appreciation for quality dice. But more than that, I'm fascinated by randomness and the various tools humans have used for thousands of years both to generate, and often simultaneously tame, stochastic processes.
Hence cards and dice.

I realised I hadn't shared my "Dice Guardians" with you all. These were made by my youngest for me this Christmas and now guard my oldest set of dice (the set from the original D&D starter box)

6. #SliceAndDice
Slice and Dice is a minimalist roguelike where battles consist mostly of choosing which #dice to lock in and which to reroll, and then choosing what order to use rolled result of the dice + which enemy to target. And even though the progression basically boils down to replacing a die or modifying its faces, this simplicity belies an incredible depth of gameplay.

I was reading the cute zine Know Your Dice! by @rayotus, which got me thinking about how 1d4+1d8 has a different probability curve than 2d6 (hat-tip to @Da_Gut for recently reminding me of this), so then I started poking around in Python, and ended up making a chart! https://cohost.org/rjgillis/post/3792144-i-was-reading-the-cu#dice#ttrpg :d4: :d6: :d8: :d12:
