'The J. Paul Getty Museum announced today nearly 88,000 images of artworks from its collection are now available for free download on its Open Content database under Creative Commons Zero (CC0).'
I design a lot of 3d models and share them online with CC non-commercial licenses.
It's really frustrating when folks download my work and sell it on Etsy, and tell me it's open source since they downloaded it for free. And then block me when I try to point out that not how it works.
And Etsy makes it really hard to enforce since they don't really care as long as they get a cut.
BTW: does Mastodon have anything like a default license for posts? Or should I just stick "All posts are CC BY-NC-SA 4.0" into my bio? #CreativeCommons
Yeah, you're really gonna see which companies are just gonna allow the AI to scrape all their stuff now. I'm a copyleft/creative commons kinda guy. But if you have art that you don't want stolen, the answer is simple.
MAKE YOUR OWN WEBSITE and put your art there (edit: and use that Glaze type of stuff on your art that wrecks AI, just to be sure)! Neocities is SO easy to set up! Or your own domain and hosting via porkbun, GoDaddy (non-WordPress) - anything at all other than proprietary/walled stuff!
Was working today on kind of an entry piece for Community Design Team: a logo and new mascot for #Bootc (special type of container).
His name is Bootseef and he's ready to fly through updates! 🚀🚀 Thanks to Madeline Peck and Design Team for the sketches, sources and color choices that inspired me. 👋 I enjoyed doing this particular mascot the most.
@fedora.design@peertube.linuxrocks.online and #CommunityDesignTeam have lots of work on their plate, so I invite aspiring and designers by trade to have a looksie-look in their GitLab issues. @fedora has engineering and other teams worth their gold, making software great, as well.
I would love to hear from folks who have experience with #crowdsourcing#culturalheritage with regard to #creativecommons and licensing in general. What license have/do/did you wish you used for the data that participants create? CC0? CC-BY? other licenses? Happy to get reading recs too :) (tagging @mia !)
Making a little art asset for my workplaces website and it's probably gonna be put under a #CreativeCommons CC-BY-SA license because my boss is actually reasonable about these things. 👍
#Radio Irrtum! is a German language #radioShow exploring the sonic vastnesses of the #underground. Emitted transmissions will raise your attention for new unheard #music all over the genre spectrum from all over the world. Btw.: Forget about that German language aspect - it's all about the music!
And this time the topic of the whole is "hitter of crinders" (should be a fair translation of "Blocküren von Tieren") which by the way has absolutely nothing to do with anything that will happen during the show and indeed makes no sense at all. Just as I like things to be.
Because #RadioIrrtum always feels connected to open social networks, lots of mighty' n world dominating Fediverse artists will be featured, like @xylander, @limebar, @Lara or @rrrrroseazerty ! Because of your great music!
Also #CreativeCommons then and when. Because if you ask me, the music industry as we know it has to die.
As always I'll post playlist and manuscript later here (provided I’m at home, else it will come up the day after). And if you have questions about the music – I'll gladly answer! Just ask!
C U all tonight! :)

Does anyone have a picture of Japan’s first digital computer, the FUJiC? It is on exposition at the National Science Museum in Tokyo. Looking for a good picture with a straightforward CC license.
The research to design the computer started in 1949, and manufacturing started in 1952. Photographic lenses were designed based on the computations staring in 1956.
When the pandemic hit in early 2020, and we were all told to stay at home indefinitely, instead of nurturing sour-dough starter, I translated Sigrid Undset's puppet theatre stage play, East of the Sun and West of the Moon, which I released under a Creative Commons licence in the hope that someone will take the time and trouble to stage it once again.
It has been freely available on Wikimedia ever since, but today I had the bright idea of uploading it to the @internetarchive, too.
