That pledge could provoke a dramatic #constitutional showdown, w/vast consequences for how the govt operates. If #Trump returns to office, these efforts are likely to turn typically arcane debates over “#impoundment” #authority — or the president’s right to stop certain spending programs— into a major political flash point, as he seeks to accomplish via #edict what he cannot pass through #Congress.
🚨 Donald Trump can receive classified intelligence briefings as the winner of the GOP nomination.
But he's facing criminal charges for mishandling classified documents. He withheld foreign aid from Ukraine over baseless conspiracy theories. He told Russian officials about a classified intelligence operation.
I remind everyone that EVEN AFTER WINNING, the T**** WH didn't even allow in the #Biden Transition Team, and never notified him that they had agreed to a full withdrawal from #Afghanistan in just two months after taking office, leaving them with no plan & no time to develop one. 🤬
So there's no chance a guy who wouldn't be trusted with the keys to a Pizza Hut will get intel.
There have been efforts to #criminalise people who live on the streets in the #UnitedStates.
Supreme Court judges are due to rule on whether a law that essentially makes being #homeless a crime, is #constitutional.
The ruling could affect the lives of more than half a million people.

Cowardly #SCOTUS Justices Appear Skeptical of Arguments to Kick #Trump Off State Ballots
The #SupremeCourt heard arguments about whether TFG’s attempts to subvert the #2020election#disqualify him from again holding office. Justices across the ideological spectrum questioned several aspects of a ruling from the #Colorado Supreme Court.
Some of the justices expressed skepticism toward those claims, suggesting that Trump’s lawyer was trying to parse the letter of the law beyond reason. #law
"Section 3 was enacted for such a time as this, and for such a figure as Trump."
Our #Constitution gives us tools to protect against those who undermine our democracy, and we must use them.
Civil rights lawyer Sherrilyn Ifill writes in a powerful amicus brief to #scotus in Trump v. Anderson, the case that may determine whether Donald Trump would be eligible to hold office.
#Section3 of the #14th Amendment is the #constitutional provision at the heart of the appeal before the justices. Oral arguments are set for next Thursday.
This section bans insurrectionists from office who previously swore to support the Constitution, isn’t a “historical relic” but rather was “designed to ensure that the ambitious rights that the 14th Amendment guarantees can withstand the resistance that its framers knew was sure to recur — not just in the immediate post-War period, but far into the future.
With a #constitutional change, #Italy 's #PM#Meloni "wants to automatically give the #party with the highest percentage of #votes a 55% share of seats in #parliament .In other words, as long as one party receives more votes than any other — even if that were, say, 20% of the #national vote — it will be rewarded with outright parliamentary #control ."
Of course,it's pure #coincidence that Meloni's #FratellidItalia is likely to be that party after the next #elections...
Failed republican lawmakers are suing #Michigan to block #state#constitutional amendment to #reproductive#rights, a ballot initiative approved by voters, arguing voters can’t create new rights. They fail to understand the basic concepts of democracy.
QUICK SUMMARY: PREVAILING VIEW OF THE MOST RESPECTED CONSERVATIVE AND LIBERAL #CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARS IS THAT #TRUMP IS DISQUALIFIED, RIGHT NOW, TO BE ON THE BALLOT IN ANY STATE, VIA #FourteenthAmendment.
Whether he's convicted of any crime=irrelevant. He's as unqualified as if he were, say, born in Africa.
My home city of #AuroraIllinois tried to back out of their contract to hold a #PrideParade in 2022, because parade organizers had asked officers in the parade route to not wear their uniforms. Some #BlueLivesMatter feelings were hurt, so a lot of officers tried to back out of providing security for the event (they were being paid overtime to provide the security).
With too few officers agreeing to provide security for overtime, the parade faced cancellation. After a great deal of local uproar in support of the parade, things were worked out last-minute. But the questions raised by the disagreement have since gone on to be a Federal Court case.
On Friday, a Federal Judge ruled temporarily in favor of the #Pride group hosting the event, saying that sections of the City's permit process likely violates the #Constitution. This ruling now allows this year's parade to go definitively forward.
