I’m working as the polling station supervisor of my little town, #RivaLigure, #Italy. Alongside the #EuropeanParliament, we are also electing the new city council. There is a huge competition: only one civic list 🚀
Glad to have nice people as scrutineers, and my dad is the polling station president. I was expecting the worst, but actually it’s not bad at all—so far. Still ~26 hours to go! 🤯
What the #OhioRepublicans are demanding isn’t “compromise,” but #extortion. Again, there is a clean bill ready to go in the state house, allowing #Biden’s name to be added to the #ballot. It’s a very simple matter to pass that bill, without any additional provisions. #Republicans are simply taking advantage of the situation in order to advance their own interests to the detriment of Ohio #voters.
It’s PA #primary day! Make sure you get out and #vote or at least drop off your mail in #ballot! Volunteering at my local #polling place. (If you identify as a hacker, you should be too.) (and yes, we actually have a candidate named #bizzarro.)
With the #Florida Supreme Court’s decision Mon night upholding an existing #15wkAbortionBan & allowing a strict new #6wkAbortionBan to take effect in 30 days, the court has cut off nearly ALL #abortion access across the #South, where ALL other states have either implemented similar #AbortionBans or #outlawed abortion entirely since #SCOTUS overturned #RoeVWade.
The FL justices issued a separate ruling Mon that greenlighted an initiative to put abortion on the #ballot in Nov.
#Police in Plymouth Township, #Michigan are investigating whether a lighting system that was set up by a mystery person to flash when someone approached a #ballot#DropBox was an attempt to #intimidate#voters.
James Knittel, the Twsp chief of the #police, said in the weeks before #Michigan's Feb 27 presidential #primary, the mystery person installed a fake camera on a pole near the drop box & a device that was similar to a motion detector.
Knittel said it appeared the person intended for the device to flash when someone walked up to the #ballot#DropBox "as if it was taking a picture.”
PlymouthTwp posted an image Tues on FB of the person who installed the equipment at the #ballot#DropBox outside Risen Christ Lutheran Church on AnnArbor Rd, which also was an #EarlyVoting location. The post from the twp asked anyone w/info on the individual to contact the #police at (734) 354-3250.
The twp had its own cameras monitoring the drop box which captured images of the person installing the fake camera in Jan & the solar-powered lighting device in early Feb.
"…while the Court stopped short of removing Trump from the #ballot,
"they did not exonerate Donald Trump for inciting #insurrection.
"Listen, let me say that again: Trump is an insurrectionist, and the Supreme Court does not dispute that fact."
"It’s disappointing that the #Court failed to bar Trump from the ballot. This was a test for the Court, and it failed to meet the moment." - Noah Bookbinder
In a relatively brief, 13 pg opinion, accompanied by one concurrence from Justice #AmyConeyBarrett & another from the 3 #liberals on the bench, the court decided that the #Constitution leaves the question of #Trump’s disqualification to #Congress. [bullshit]
“Responsibility for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders & candidates rests w/Congress & not the States,” the Court ruled.
The ruling brings one of the most prominent efforts to hold #Trump accountable for his attempt to stay in #power after losing the #2020election to an end. #SCOTUS, in oral arguments & in its Monday opinion, went out of its way to dodge the question of whether that attempt — which culminated in the #Jan6 storming of #Congress — constituted an #insurrection.
In so doing, the Court set up a new rule which extends beyond #Trump: that #Congress, & not the states, is responsible for enforcing #disqualification against federal officeholders & candidates. To do that, the majority held, Congress MUST act.
#SCOTUS to post a decision Mon, possibly on #Trump#ballot access?
The #SupremeCourt is set to announce ≥1 opinion AM, leading to speculation the justices could rule on Trump’s eligibility for the #Colorado ballot the day before #SuperTuesday — when presidential primary #elections are held in that state & >12 others.
#SCOTUS is “…far behind in issuing rulings for cases heard since the start of the term in Oct. The #court has announced just 5 decisions, leaving 92% of cases to be resolved b4 the term ends in late Jun or early Jul.
“…the court’s backlog represents the slowest pace of any term in the tenure of CJ #JohnRoberts. By Mar1 of the ‘05 term, the court had issued rulings in >⅓ of its cases. That dropped to 21% by this point in the ‘20 term. This yr, it is at 8%.”
“‘That was then, this is now — & now it’s Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Donald Trump,’ said Pamela Karlan, a Stanford #law prof & co-dir of the school’s #SCOTUS#Litigation Clinic.
“In Jan, the justices agreed to decide whether states can #disqualify#Trump from the #ballot for…the #Jan6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. The court quickly held argument 5wks later, w/a majority… appearing poised to prevent CO from barring Trump from holding office. But they have not announced their decision.”
#SCOTUS is currently considering the broader dispute.
A judge in Cook County, IL, on Wed ruled that §3 of the 14th Amendment, aka the "#InsurrectionClause," bars Trump from the 2024 Republican primary ballot.
The order overrules a Jan determination from the IL BOE that Trump could remain #eligible.
In the upcoming #US#presidential#election, Biden and Trump are on the #ballot. Both may have cognitive limitations, but let's not beat around the bush – some question Trump's mental sharpness too. So, let's play a round of "Top #Trumps" to compare who's more fit for the job.
Well, maybe we should measure it by who has fewer limitations, senility-wise?
So draw a card and let's compare:
Senility:
Biden 40, Trump 60
Erectile dysfunction:
Biden 40, Trump 60
Biden is leading for now, but what's the next card, and who will be the better #seniorcitizen?
It's not just about memory lapses; it's about leadership and vision. So, who's got the edge?
