Let’s get personal, shall we? I’ve been here a while now, and as I’m feeling quite comfortable at Mastodon, I’d like to share a bit more about myself beyond my passion for the climate and the environment.
To begin with, I’m a male, he/him, hetero, strongly supporting LGBTQ rights. I’m a baby boomer, born at 312 PPM 🌏, a United Statesian, although I lived in Europe (mostly Hungary) for several years, and traveled extensively for work before retiring in 2012. I’ve never been good at sustaining long-term romantic relationships, and I’ve finally settled into comfortable singlehood.
I like to say I’m made of contrasts.
For example, I’m rather funny and quite personable, but I don’t enjoy small talk and I hate parties. I currently live in the Bible Belt, but I’m an outspoken atheist. While I can easily fit into most social situations, I don’t feel comfortable around large groups and prefer being alone most of the time. I live near two huge military bases, but I detest the USA’s militaristic, troop-worshiping culture. I’m almost always cheerful, which masks my deeply felt existential nihilism. I’m a neat freak, but also rather lazy, preferring fun over work.
I’ll finish up with some hashtags to add flavor...
As the slow cooker has been creating a sweet potato, red lentil and coconut curry all day #TonightsCookingTunes is a lazy one.
Having become a little emotional listening to the new and final #Beatles single earlier this seemed just about right to me.
I wouldn’t say it’s their best work, but it feels like the last song of an album, and so, it’s fitting to be considered the “last” Beatles song. It’s an appropriate coda.
His opinion of the song towards the end of the video is almost word for word how I described how I felt about it to my husband as we listened to it's first radio play yesterday. I really love the song, probably because it's so typically John Lennon and I adore his vocal. It's strange to hear it but I'm glad that it's out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PAkVIFUZPQ&t=306s
They're gonna need to find whole new industrial scale sources of Nope to meet just my personal Nope requirements for this "new #Beatles song." Global demand may actually deplete the remaining terrestrial Nope reserves and require development of asteroid mining techniques
"Besides John’s vocal, “Now And Then” includes electric and acoustic guitar recorded in 1995 by George, Ringo’s new drum part, and bass, guitar and piano from Paul, which matches John’s original playing. Paul added a slide guitar solo inspired by George; he and Ringo also contributed backing vocals to the chorus."
60 years ago marked a major turning point in western culture with the release of #WiththeBeatles on November 22, 1963, and the onset of #Beatlemania in the UK., an explosion of joy still reverberating today. With the Beatles climaxed (so to speak) with a cover of Money, by Bradford & Gordy. (btw, @NothingIsReal is a master-class on how to do a #Beatles podcast).
I gather there's some controversy, but I absolutely love this new #Beatles record made with parts from all four of them, based on a composition on rescued tape from John.
I love how it conveys genuine Beatles but through the style of modern production: lush and layered sounds and textures, more compression than was used in the 70's, and bringing out John's voice. It's also just a great piece of songwriting, their last collab.

Why do thousands of deep-sea octopuses congregate two miles below the surface, at the base of an underwater mountain off California? Researchers now think they know the secret behind this real-life octopus garden, the largest known gathering of deep-sea octopuses on Earth....
I guess Revolver is my favorite Beatles album, in that I like every single song. All other albums have tunes I skip every time. What is your favorite #Beatles? "None" is an acceptable answer, I guess. Haha
So I know my #vinyl lovers are strong here. So I need to know. What’s the best & fastest way of moving a large amount of vinyl. All high quality. A large amount still sealed. #Rock, #hiphop, 50s and 60s lounge, and what looks like a pretty legendary #Beatles collection. It’s basically a school/rent money party, and the right price is invited. Maybe our first #mastodon#musicparty?
Finally getting around to a sequential listening of the #Beatles discography, besides exposing myself to songs I haven't heard, it'll be interesting to experience the evolution of their sound and to experience the albums as a cohesive whole rather than hearing singles on the radio
I know there are lots of #Beatles fans out there, and probably they like all of their songs. As for me however, I was discovering the great quartet sporadically, that's why maybe I like some of their songs far more than others. But there are some songs that I truly adore. One of them is "Because". If heavens exist, then either the music producer there included that masterpiece to the constant concert program, or they have no musical taste at all. the harmonies, the melody, the lyrics, everything about this song is so beautiful!
