A ban on having exotic animals as pet would actually be the best to honour these 'magnificent' animals.

I don't think the owner was necessarily bad. However, if you are a pet owner, of any animal, not just exotic ones, the least you can do if you go away for holidays is having someone coming to check for your pets.

A beluga can change the shape of its "melon" (the bulbous mass on its head) at will. Could this be used as a form of communication? A new study indicates that it might. Here's a story from @hakaimagazine with a six-panel comic illustrating the five different melon shapes and in what contexts some are used.

There was plenty of food and plenty of time, so there was no need to push one another aside (is that ever, really, the right thing to do?) nor take giant, hasty mouthfuls and gulp them down.

So they sociably grazed, enjoying the day, the surroundings, and the companionship of one another.

When I hung up this plant, I thought there was no way Pax could get at it. So wrong! The little feline slinky strikes again!

Good morning/afternoon/evening to you all!

"My perception of wolves might have been different if I grew up on a ranch in Montana, but wolves were like dragons and unicorns. Seeing a wolf in the wild would be like catching a glimpse of Nessie in Scotland."

"This community of orcas, documented in the Strait of Gibraltar since the Roman Empire, consists of nearly 90 animals. Some scientists believe that all of them now ram sailing boats."

For Rolling Stone, Tomas Weber reports on the orcas off the Iberian coast who have taken up boat ramming as a (dangerous) hobby: https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/orca-killer-whales-yachts-1235011945/

A new study has found that chacma baboons (Papio ursinus) like to feed on antelope poop, especially during drier months when vegetation might be sparse.

Researchers deployed collar cameras attached to four baboons in South Africa as part of a documentary film in 2017; they later analyzed footage from two of them.
