I think that I actually "get" Surrealism now, or at least what it means to me.
Most of the Surrealists (not you Dali) were antifascist (communist and/or anarchist) and I think much of their work was intended as an antifascist psyop.
I've made posts like "Normalize being weird" & ranted about HOA's enforcing homogeneity because I see that as part of fighting fascism.
They were trying to shatter that same "impulse towards normality". I used to think they were just "being weird artists" trying to push the limits for fun or arts sake. Maybe some of them were, but we need an #Antifascist#Art movement with a quickness.
Use it to counterprotest fascists interrupting a trans event. Use it to make a point. Use it to fundraise for local candidates that allign with your values.
"Unreal, dreamlike, bizarre—just some of the words used to describe the art movement known as Surrealism. Take a deep dive into the art and artists associated with Surrealism with these art activities for kids and families."
thread of screenshots from my work yesterday. i finished the mountaintop graveyard where you talk to the spirit buried there! the ethereal entity will give you what you need on your journey. you can also explore the poems here, which give more context to the game and space that you are in... 1/5

i got The Witch model done, animated, and in the environment finally... this was originally going to be a bitsy sequence but i decided to give her the full treatment because she's the last major character you'll meet in the update.
i like her. she's scary looking and is made of mud, teeth, blood, twigs, etc etc...

♞ Life-sized chess pieces, alcohol-guzzling nuns and crucified, naked, bespectacled men. The story of British Surrealism began not in Bohemian London but in a Birmingham suburb. Of course it did.
Comedian and writer Stewart Lee revels in the story of The Balsall Heath Bohemians.
the accumulation of all my dither post processing effect work... this is how the poem at the top of the mountain will be presented. as you walk around you get little pieces of narration.
it worked out perfect. changing how the person sees the world makes the words more impactful.

Here’s my concept of a surrealist modern city. The “surrealism” is in the way that buildings stack on top of each other, the way architecture plunges into the ocean area. It is also in the tipsy and melted shape of things.
My perspective is not correct, it’s skewed to one side because of the way my hand draws. I need to fix this, but I’ll probably just draw a new city. I want to amp up the surrealism even more. This art movement is all about freedom, imho.
i got the character animation for the last spirit done! the sequence is almost finished, with the platformer and opening poem in there too.
you disturb her grave because you need her heart. you have to convince her to give it to you. it's not hard to do since she doesn't want it anymore because it's too broken.
Today in Labor History February 4, 1900: Jacques Prévert was born (1900-1977). Prevert was a poet, surrealist and libertarian socialist who glorified the spirit of rebellion & revolt.
Excerpt from “Song in the Blood”
There are great puddles of blood on the world
Where’s it going all this spilled blood
Murder’s blood. . . war’s blood. . .
Misery’s blood. . .
And the blood of men tortured in prisons. . .
The blood of children calmly tortured by their papa
And their mama. . .
And the blood of men whose heads bleed in
Padded cells
And the roofer’s blood
When the roofer slips and falls from the roof
The person experiences a strange sensation of curiosity. The smallest of creatures is both new and correct in being more. Some of them, referred to as 'ko'a,' feel the need to exchange thoughts about the eternal experience of brief existence. They are the smallest of minds and resemble the good thinkers. Their ability to create and share thoughts about existence supports them in their quest for understanding.
I've been thinking about this track a lot recently. This is pretty much what my brain sounds like all the time now. This whole thing. (Do not listen to if on hallucinogens.)
