How #ClimateChange is impacting Europe’s Olive Garden. #OliveOil lovers take note. Economist Adam Tooze reminds us that though #olives are often associated with Greece and Italy, it is #Spain that is currently Europe’s olive garden. And Spanish Olive growing regions are under increasing threat due to #GlobalWarming. The last few summers are evidence of that fact. Tooze says: “Longer term climate forecasts are even more devastating. Changes in temperature, evaporation, soil PH and the reduction in rainfall in the autumn are predicted to drastically shrink the regions of Andalusia that are suitable for cultivation of any of the well-known olive varietals…” Just one more casualty in an ever-increasing list of future challenges/disaster we’re going to face for our own lack of commitment and action. #activism#ClimateAction#ClimateEmergency
The nine hours in which Spain made the 100% renewable dream a reality.
Electricity generation through solar, wind and water exceeded total demand in mainland Spain on Tuesday.
A huge drive in the installation of renewables — especially solar — is enabling to cover an increasing part of its electricity needs with renewable energy, substantially reducing its carbon footprint and applying downward pressure on prices during daylight hours.

‘The country is becoming a desert’: Drought-struck Spain is running out of water.
After a long and painful drought, the country has been hit by an unusually early heat wave, evaporating even more of the "blue gold" it still has left in its reservoirs.
While farmers fear for their survival, environmentalists say it is time for “Europe’s back garden” to rethink how it uses and manages its increasingly scarce water supply.
Spain is battling a historic drought after recording its driest and hottest April on record last month. The country's water reservoirs have dropped to below 50 percent of capacity, while levels have slumped to around 25 percent in the worst-hit regions of Andalusia and Catalonia. The drought is a catastrophe for the country’s critical agricultural sector, which supplies much of Europe and is anticipating a huge drop in its yearly production. #News#Spain
