Also me: Come on a 12” sony vaio from 2004 for the equivalent of 44$ ? This thing could run 32 bit #HaikuOS . 1.5GHz and 1GB RAM should be enough for everybody.

I don't have any real retro games I want to play enough to say get a hold of an emulator; I fully admit most games I played 10 hours a day in my youth (the 1980s) were shit. The oldest games might actually fancy to play still functions on Steam.
Of course there were good ones like Arkanoid, Uridium, Balder Dash, Tetris and a bit later Defender of the Crown and a few others, but most were played because they were the only game in town.

Atari 1040STF upgrade to 4MB - works! It's quite smooth, and easy if you got the mobo with 8 chips for 1MB (or 4 for 520STF).
I've seen that Mega ST1 to ST4 has similarities to this particular motherboard, and decided to try.
Get a PS/2 FPM 70ns RAM module with 8 chips, SOJ26 to DIP adaptera (8 pcs), 33ohm resistor
Desolder the chips from PS/2 module and desolder old RAM from ST, then solder new RAM in adapters (add sockets)
Connect all the legs - number 5 from the left, top (signal A9) with each other then connect them to MMU pin 64 (its not connected to anythin) via 33 Ohm resistor. The A9 singls on RAM are also not connected.
The upgrade is reversible just by swapping memory chips.

The characters are too wide, and the whole image seems stretched.

After getting the #Commodore#C64 and #C128 running again, the next device to repair is the #C1571.
It had #corrosion and #rust on the main board and the power supply is beyond repairworthiness. I'd replace the latter with a #meanwell RD-35 with 5 and 12 volt output.
One #diode was rusty, a few traces needed #cleaning and five #resistor looked bad. Hope the black hybrid chip is still okay.

Some more progress on the #Commodore#VC1541 today.
The #alignment from the diagnostics looks okay so far.
But when trying the performance test, it gets stuck at the "formatting" stage. The red LED lights, but the spindle motor doesn't start.
When trying the "fast format", the spindle motor starts, but the red LED doesn't light up.
Both programs, and any other from the diagnostic, seem to freeze until I switch the drive off, resulting in a "device not present" error or similar. #retrocomputing
Hmm… when I open an Apple II disk image in Disk Jockey, it shows the folders and system files, but not any of the HyperCard stacks or the HyperCard IIGS application.
There goes my attempt at examining a IIGS stack using Hex Fiend to see if it's the same as a Mac stack.
Looking for Toshiba L50utils.exe - laptop pcmcia drivers for Windows 95. It is long gone from the Toshiba website. Anybody with a floppy with this on or know where to find a copy?
