My self-assembled computer has been completely dead for a while, but today I managed to revive it! The 16 MHz crystal was replaced, and now it's running perfectly! Getting files on it is a little bothersome, but when I have a bit of time I'll see if I can get and perhaps the te editor (https://github.com/MiguelVis/te) on it.

@saustrup The te editor works great on the Z80-MBC2.

This short history of web development is a useful overview for me as I haven't kept close tabs on the field. The post seems to cover all the main frameworks but a notable omission is Tailwind CSS.

@jdevoo Haven't heard of those LLM frameworks, thankfully.

This is a very important question: which indentation do you prefer for loop subclauses, A or B.

Screenshot of Common Lisp code using the Loop macro. This one is identified as option B. Each conditional subclause (in this case

@zyd I prefer B but A is acceptable too.

This post is quite old but extremely interesting. It describes a 6502 assembler in Common Lisp for the NES game console.

The assembler has a Lispy design, which for example features lazy evaluttion for forward references and mini languages for control structures and audio output.

The code is here:

I built a GUI for Insphex, my hex dump tool for Medley. This Common Lisp program calls Interlisp's window and menu facilities to send the output to a window with a command toolbar.

Me: Go and tidy your room please. I only want to see a single Hot Wheels loop out in there.

1 hour later…

Youngest: Dad, I’ve tidied my room and there’s only one Hot Wheels loop in there now. Come and look…

Me: THAT’S MASSIVE!

Him: Yeah (looking confused), but it’s only one loop.

Me: 🤦‍♂️

In this villa near Florence, Italy, Galileo Galilei spent the last decade or so of his life under house arrest. I was there this weekend on the panel of a science outreach event, here's the video recording in Italian:

A list of compiler optimizations with descriptions and code snippets.

The entries are concise, clear, and with short, easy to understand snippets. A great example of algorithm documentation.

Confession of an Amiga enthusiast back in the day: I always liked the black and white hires mode of the Atari ST, which to me looked slicker than even the original Macintosh. And I still love that "printed page" experience of environments like Medley Interlisp.

@proedie Ironically, I always used my Amiga 500 with a green phosphor monitor.

@lopta I always wondered about that too.

@RL_Dane Now that you mention it I notice the border is indeed thick, but back then it didn't seem that odd as the Spectrum and Commodore 64 had similar unused borders.

@flyingsaceur It seems there isn't much experimentation with monochrome other than in the e-ink space.

Just word to American friends to let them know the horrors of socialised medicine.
Took my dad to the local hospital for an ENT clinic appointment. Due his 6 monthly maintenance of hearing aids. He told them the up volume button was not working on both aids. The tech verified they were not working. He got two new aids then and there - no charge .
In the hospital for a total of 50 mins. We arrived 20 mins early.
Also we got there and back by frequent public bus service which is free for my dad.

@raymierussell Over the last year of her life my late mother was hospitalized half a dozen times for up to a couple of weeks each. The total bill was zero.
