Honestly, I’ve been really enjoying making these, probably the most I’ve been excited to model something for months. So I exchanged some sleep for a faster turnaround :) Previous post here...
Hi everyone, I’m back with another kbin icon pack. This time it’s flags for 18 EU countries (the non-fancy ones) + an EU flag. So 38 icons in total. All icons come in two styles: semi-transparent/glassy and opaque metallic. I also made a simple instance logo generator....
So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....
Intended mainly as a thought experiment — I tried to come up with a seamless and easy to use system with various accessories, like lenses, filters and blinds, that wouldn’t feel clunky.
This is a short animation test I rendered out just to check the timing... this is probably the last thing I'll be working on with this scene, but the animation is slow going.
The final will rotate the cube as the truck traverses it. 😎
I sorta want to make a 60fps version, maybe at half speed. But that would mean 4x the frames as this one, and I'm not ready to devote 6 hours of render time to this.
So y’all remember #Swarm app (spin off from #FourSquare)? When you check in and earn #coins, it animates them falling/flying/splashing around the screen.
The number of coins in the #animation correlates to the number earned for that checkin.
Usually a checkin gets just a few coins. Sometimes bonuses will net 100+.
I had two checkins today with insane bonuses resulting in 600+ coins each. The app choked horribly trying to #render the animation!!
The icon is designed as a hypothetically producible piece of jewelry, except that the corners — those tiny semi-spheres that hold the gems — are a bit larger to accommodate the icon's scale. The piece has a partially open back to allow for more light to reach the gems. That makes them look prettier both in renders and irl....
Animation is not something I've ever formally trained in, but I enjoy doing it. I just tend to get really caught up in the details of the curves, making sure everything looks just right. 😅
Created across many versions of Blender, but touched up and rendered in Blender 4.0, with Cycles. AgX is pretty nice!
I blew the dust off this model and threw it into Blender 4 for some turntable renders. I liked the original light purple backdrop, but it looks pretty good on red, in my opinion!
Took a break from improvements to the GPU path tracer to test making a stylized volcanic eruption using the Minecraft map the Continent of Lisrina by Dannypan.
OC I’m back with several more community icons: check out Artemis (future kbin app), Urban Details, 3D Modeling and some other stuff

OC Kbinicons Part 3 is here: 19 EU flags in two different styles each + a psd file to generate small instance logos for separate kbin instances

OC I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future.

OC To start off, I’d like to share a personal industrial design project from a while ago: a concept of what a semi-pro camera system for smartphones might look like (www.behance.net)
Intended mainly as a thought experiment — I tried to come up with a seamless and easy to use system with various accessories, like lenses, filters and blinds, that wouldn’t feel clunky.
OC Experimenting with using shapes inspired by automotive design as a basis for jewelry pieces. This one’s a pendant.

OC In addition to the previous post: in case this community wants an icon of a similar vibe, here's one, for example :)
