Hey, has anyone here had experience examining a PhD thesis “by publication”? I’m doing an admin task around revisions to a thesis (in Australia we don’t have a thesis defence), and the student/supervisor team have dismissed any comments on chapters which were already published (there were many comments from 3 examiners). Is this common practice? #academicchatter#phd
ICYMI: 🏺 So in 2022 I defended my #PhD in #Archaeology and it was an intense couple of weeks until it was finally over. I prepared for it, I practiced for it and I delivered. While everything was exhausting, it ended very well… Read about my past experience here
Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands) seeks to fill two PhD positions (4 years) in for the ERC project “Avicenna Live: The Immediate Context of Avicenna’s Intellectual Formation.”
My research group has a maths education PhD position available. (Not maths, please note, but maths education). The position is within FERMAT, the mathematics education research group at the University of Twente.

We totally randomly met two #bicycle riders this morning near our home, apparently they're traveling around #Greece & #Albania with bicycles. They are a #German & #Italian couple. We invited them at my mom's home and we all had lunch together. Apparently they are #PhD candidates in #Austria, one in #chemistry and the other one in #biology. Very interesting young people. It was a good day today.
My #PhD colleague at the #ANU School of #Cybernetics, @Amirasadi, has a session up for voting at #SXSW in #Sydney about the practical implications of #AI in #HealthCare - benefits, risks, dangers - and how to enhance health without causing harm.
If you're inclined, I'd really appreciate your help in voting for his session!

Thank you in advance everyone, really appreciate it, #Mastodon family ❤️
So I have read a lot of people saying, oh, PhD corrections, it's hard to start but then when you get going they are really fast. I want to say in public that the corrections have been 𝐛𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐫 the most difficult bit of this PhD for me and if you are struggling too, you are not alone. #phd
I’m looking for PhD programs that are pretty self-directed? I’m just starting my search for schools to apply to and wanted to reach out for recommendations and places to start my search.
Specifically I’m looking to study a combination of Posthumanism and Community Development. To my knowledge, this would be a very interdisciplinary degree, and thus I might need a school that offers an Interdisciplinary Studies PhD or something similar. Or possibly a degree in either Posthumanism or Community Development, but that is flexible and allows me to study across disciplines.
I also have done my entire masters degree with independent studies (self-designed coursework and evaluation) under various mentors, and I’m looking to continue that sort of learning style (though if I have to take a few structured classes I can plug my nose and dive in, lol).
Super enjoyed @Unixbigot's talk on #voice controlled DIY #opensource devices, and the overview of the voice assistant stack - learned a couple new tools that I wasn't aware of because head down in #PhD - so informative! Thanks Chris!
📢 Two fully funded #PhD positions in our group, the Sydney Algorithms and Computing Theory group (SACT) at the University of #Sydney, and André van Renssen
Dear #anthropologists - @anthropology
I'm seeking for help!
I'm doing my #PhD to #socialAnthropology. It is an #ethnographicresearch with #children and #families that are seeking #asylum in Finland.
I want to use #newMaterialist theories, but my supervisor is worried that I wont find anthropological discussions with this theme & theoretical approach.
If you are or you know someone who is an anthro, working with migration issues and using am. theoretical approaches, please let me know!
After watching it, I know why this thumbnail talks to me that much.
She talks about her story in physics research academia, she talked about my future in biology research academia.
Every point she makes in this video, I share them and I’ve been repeating it for years.
I love science, but I can’t do honest science in this system. It’s morally made to make money, and money is the sole reason why people write papers, not truth and discovery.
I really don’t know what I can do in my life with that much passion in a field but no way to practice it.
