At the #HeraMission workshop today; Ian Carnelli confirms that the mission is on schedule for launch in October: https://www.cosmos.esa.int/documents/11661626/11661645/Hera_April2024_Schedule_V5.pdf/

It is then five months out to fly by Mars before going on to #Didymos & #Dimorphos to follow up on the #DARTMission deflection demonstration.

Agata Rożek describes current plans for Earth-based lightcurve observations of #Didymos this year; to give a midpoint between the #DARTMission and the #HeraMission.

She also notes an occultation on 2024 August 13, if anyone near #Perth wants to chase it: https://asteroidoccultation.com/2024/2024_08/0813_65803_84320_Map.gif

Affecting nearly every service - #Trains still running were terminated early at 9pm. Tomorrow morning will consist of assessing the damage done to tracks to see what routes can be reopened.

#Perth - #Inverness route is unlikely to run at all tomorrow with #Scotrail announcing that all replacement options will be extremely limited - (when is it no?)

Apparently some weather models (ECMWF) are showing a chance of #snow in the #Perth hills in the next couple of days.

Somehow I don't see it happening, but it'll be awesome if it does.

Woodside's Perth office evacuated as protestors have released gas into it. To my mind, that's protesting a bit too hard.

It's raining outside so I'm sheltering in the Print Hall bar in town. Closed for like a year for refurbs. Looks exactly the same.

My sister is still testing positive on day 13. Just to let you all know #CovidIsNotOver #COVIDisAirborne she has no sick days left. And has had to go to work sick. We can thank our politicians for letting Covid rip on us without protections😞 #MasksWork imagine how many people are walking around transmitting this virus 🦠 #winter #perth

I'm feeling it's time for another picture from Australia.
When I was last there, this enormous sculpture by Marcus Canning stood at the entrance to Fremantle WA. It weighs about 66 tonnes and is known as Containbow (for obvious reasons).
It's a popular and cheery piece, but I believe there are plans to move it to make way for a new road bridge across the Swan River.

Every place has its season and for Western Australia it is definitely Autumn. The days are, for the most part, long and warm, the nights are cool. Autumn here is beautiful.

The 4 seasons of the Northern Hemisphere calendar only kind-of fit here, in the Nyoongar six season calendar April-May is Djeran (read more https://www.kooyarwongi.com.au/djeran-season-is-here/)

However you call it, it is still wonderful.

Ooh the state government are making all public transport free on first Sunday of the month for a 2 year trial. I like this. Just need to get the other 29ish days of the month now.

Seems other bridges in #Perth are stepping up to fill the hole left by the Bayswater Bridges’ demolition.

The West Perth Subway at Sutherland Street seems to have just had a near miss, with a overheight refrigerated truck.

The driver is now reversing back ways down Sutherland St, creating an even bigger traffic hazard.
