In 1956 #Egyptian journalist #MustafaAmin came across a widowed mother abandoned by her son. Expressing #sympathy with abandoned mothers and disregarded parents he promoted the idea throughout the country but was initially ridiculed by everyone. Mustafa anointed March 21 as the annual Mother’s Day in the newspaper “Akhbar el-Yom.” Amin was later imprisoned for his campaign. Around 10% of #mothers have quit their job due to problems with balancing #childcare & #work, while around 40% have foregone #promotion or other career development opportunities for the same reason... so, we can see how structural #sexism (reinforced by Govt. policies) is affecting #women in the workplace.
