I'm looking for a way to add a Korean calendar to my #samsung calendar ( without using Google calendar )
On the samsung smartphone I'm able to add the lunar #korean#calendar but that's not enough to show me 추석 and others fest .
Any tips?
You seldom see strong fashion stories on @medium (a shame IMO, because we all wear clothes and they say so much about us). But the young Medium writer Jee Young Park show how well they can work in this story that defends the controversial 2024 MetGala by showing how much she valued the museum as a Korean-American growing up in New Jersey:
It was 69% complete, right below the threshold. Since then there has been no significant change. If you are a K-9 Mail user and a native Korean speaker, please consider helping out.
The worst type of #tourist in #Japan are the westerners who complain about #Chinese tourists (quite often, actually #Taiwanese, #Korean or #SEAsian but they don't know or care to tell the difference) and don't realize that it's actually them who are the most annoying.
I see way more bad or stupid behavior, especially in #Kyoto, from western tourists than Asian tourists.
However, i realized i could step up the #korean aquiring game. If all the kids nowadays can learn englisch by watching youtube and tiktok, i can do it, too!
I am kidding, i knew this before, obviously, that i could watch korean yt videos, but it was mostly frustrating and boring.
But you know what i love? Freaking Booktube!
And it exists in korea, too. Do i care that i only understand like 30%? No, because there are freaking book covers lol
If oppa (오빠) can be used on a romantic setting. Should that mean that nuna (누나) can be an option, if the woman is older than the man ? 🤔 #Korean#LanguageLearning
OK so #Korean has two number systems and they’re used for different things - fine. But you count hours with native numbers and minutes with Sino numbers?! So to say 3:45, the 3 is native and the 45 is sino? C’mon guys I’m tryna learn a language here 😭🤪
#Korean Streamer #Kocowa+ Continues Global Rollout With Europe & Oceania Launch.
“Europe, in particular, has adopted the #Hallyu (K-content) wave.
The continent was recently named as the genre’s fast-growing market, with 13.2 million identifying themselves as fans, according to the 2023 Overseas Global Hallyu Survey.” #kpop#kdrama
Overhearing some guys speaking #Korean at this coffee shop.
Every time I hear the language, I like the cadence and tone of it, I recall that it has a writing system that's designed to be very easy to learn, and think to myself, "Could it be that hard to learn?" ;)
I like Japanese, too, and while hiragana/katakana are easy to learn, Kanji scares the pants offa me. XD
Fedifriends, I'm looking for opportunities to get better at reading #korean, so if you know any korean speakers on fedi and people who toot mostly in korean so I can follow them and practice my reading skills, feel free to recommend them to me!
Also, I'm interested in any account who shares trivia & knowledge about the korean culture, even if they post mostly in english!
In #Korean#folklore and #mythology, dragons are often divine or potentially divine creatures and many #dragon tales revolve around them attaining godhood by ascending to the sky.
In a typically misogynistic take, it's said that a woman commenting on a dragon's ascent or even catching sight of it will frustrate the flight and send it plunging back to earth, where the former sky-dragon candidate becomes a yimugi or gangcheol (the equivalent Western terms may be wyrm, serpent, or wyvern) that harms people and agriculture.
On the flip side though, aren't these stories also testament to the power women have, that a nameless village woman merely LOOKING at a being on the cusp of heavenly power can drop it right back to the ground? Who would win: Dragonling rising to power over the skies and the weather, or one random bitch?
Tasted the famous #Korean#WalnutCake. This one also had #RedBeanPaste in it, and it was pretty tasty. I liked the contrast between the #walnut and sweet red bean paste.
3rd movie watched today -- "Gook" (2017) -- an indie film made/directed by Korean American Justin Chon -- which won a Audience Award at Sundance that year.
It's a gritty, "in-your-face" B&W film set on the 1st day of the Rodney King riots in LA in 1992 -- which didn't have much to do w/the plot of the film itself -- which highlights the conflict between the Black & Asian communities pretty much everywhere -- including North Beach when there was still a low income housing project there and in Oakland C-town now -- but is more a story about interpersonal relationships between & within the Korean American & Black communities.
It's a tough watch but IMO it's one of the better recently made Asian American films in recent years.
I was rather over ambitious with pre-Hobi birthday dinner cooking! Got the right paste for doen-jang jjigae ( tofu & soybean paste soup) got fish cakes for
Tteokbokki, home made kimchi for rice.. had to cook the pork first, and chop for cucumber salad #Korean#dinner#HappyBirthdayHobi
( Only 3 of the hobs work, which can cause issues... )
( Otherwise occupied tomorrow evening on actual birthday. Japchae on Sunday)
