"The UN International Organization for Migration said it believes 15,000 to 20,000 migrants are stranded in rural olive groves near the central Tunisian coastline. Their presence is a byproduct of anti-migration policies being championed in both Tunisia and throughout Europe, particularly from right-wing politicians who are expected to gain ground in the EU’s parliamentary elections this week"

Just exactly what needs to be said about our and today. is great in lots of ways but that we can't honestly talk about how it hurts wages is probably the best example of what's wrong with today. But seriously, they touch on all the key points imo.

Hey boardgamers with your resources represented by various coloured wooden cubes. When thinking about #immigration, remember that #immigrants are one of those resources. Sure, every 20th light brown wooden cube or so may come with a point penalty. But the net effect of receiving those cubes is super strong. It's how you win the game after the Demographic Transition.

18- and 19-year-olds are the most welcoming of Japan's increase in foreign residents, with over half thinking it’s a good thing. Approval numbers stay above 30% until age 44 - after that, those who are noncommittal or think it’s a bad thing comprise well over half of respondents.

Even Bloomberg agrees, 's immigration 'crackdown' solution would be disastrous. But Bloomberg also unfairly accuses Pres Biden of causing the current debacle. It's Republicans, that for decades, who have thwarted all attempts to pass a comprehensive immigration bill that solves many of the problems:

"The former president’s policies would maximize chaos & cruelty while doing little to address the underlying problem."

#LindseyGraham, says #Trump wants a #spectacle of “hundreds of thousands” of people being marched out of the country.

“…when he gets to be president, not only is he gonna secure the #border, he’s going to #deport hundreds of thousands of people here illegally. And if you wanna shut down illegal #immigration, those coming need to see an outflow by the tens & hundreds of thousands. That will deter. The only #policy change that will work is to have #MassDeportations.”

We spoke with an immigration law scholar who explains 4 key points about how Biden’s new executive order will influence #immigration trends.

  1. The executive order is basically an asylum ban
  2. This could lead to a rise in undocumented minors crossing the border solo, since the order doesn’t apply to them
  3. Biden is taking a page out of Trump’s playbook
  4. The executive order won’t be so easy to implement

Rs refuse to govern, so #immigration is a mess... so an EO by Pres Biden.

"Rather than doubling down on deterrence & focusing only on bringing down border encounters, the US should focus on strengthening the asylum system itself & providing new pathways for ppl to come w/o feeling forced to cross the border. Undoubtedly - will require an infusion of resources from Congress to support the humanitarian protection system: hiring more asylum officers, port of entry staff-."
