There's a fundamental difference. My #ICE#car generates more waste heat than I could possibly use for heating purposes, and I don't need to heat the fuel to keep it efficient. So having the heat on full blast doesn't reduce my range at all.
So if I leave home with enough gas to get there, I'm fine, no matter what the weather. If #heating for cabin & battery mean my #EV quits 10km short of my destination, there's a good chance I'm #dead.
A little early to call the start of the #Greenland#meltSeason yet, but yesterday we calculate 10% of the ice sheet had melt at the surface - an impressive steep increase from 3% the day before!
The melt was accompanied by rain + snow though which adds to the #ice budget so the #IceSheet actually gained about 4 Gigatonnes..
Roughly 2% of the #greenland icesheet melted the last few days - we define the start of the melt season as the 3rd of 3 consecutive days where more than 5% of the ice sheet has surface melting.

Just because the ice sheet is melting, does not mean it's losing ice - much of the melt actually refreezes in the deep snow pack so we @polarportal@polarportal define the start of the #ablation (that is #ice loss) season as the first of 3 days where there is at least 1 Gigatonne of surface melt AND runoff, more in this news item.
In the daily plot, blue indicates ice gain, pink and red indicates ice loss.

Second time in a year I’ve done a 500+km drive in a day with my wife.
In our #ice car we used to swap a couple of times at service stations along the way, and then arrive pretty tired.
In the #ev we have a couple of ~30min charging stops and arrive feeling a lot less drained.
I’m reasonable sure the needed 30mins break actually mean we’re driving better (due to a decent rest stops), which is an unexpected side effect of EV driving. 🤔
