oh hey it's april, tis the month when greenwashing kicks into full gear. i'm always in the mood to point out greenwashing so i'm just gonna thread it all here.
@rose_alibi i came across this recently and thought you may be interested.
cow leather actually seems to be far worse environmentally than “vegan” (plastic) leather. some excerpts from the link below:
> Every day, an estimated 40 million litres of untreated waste-water [from tanneries] flows through major tanning country India and into the Ganges River, which people drink from and bathe in.
> More tanneries than any other business type appear on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund list.
> 95% of US tanneries now operate overseas to avoid environmental oversight penalties. The land under ex-tannery sites cannot be used for farming, be built on, or often even be sold.
> To make 1 typical cow skin leather tote, almost 17,128L of water is used.
> The farming of cattle for beef and leather products is responsible for 80% of the Amazon’s deforestation.
it doesn’t biodegrade:
> Leather does not effectively biodegrade. Not even according to the tanning industry itself, not even vegetable tanned leather.
furthermore, it produces more CO2 than the polyurethane alternatives:
> Even polyurethane synthetic leather boots and the impact of their supposed incineration at their ‘end of life’ (if they aren’t able to be recycled) emit almost seven times less emissions [than the cow leather alternative].
all this is not to say that plastic is a solution. it’s not. but i see a lot of greenwashing around animal products, especially as a way to invalidate vegan alternatives that aim to reduce harm. i’m sure that wasn’t your intention :)

Reminder that li-ion battery recycling is an extremely difficult and currently unsolved problem. It is highly likely that nearly all li-ion batteries will be discarded as trash, not much different than what plastic recycling ended up as. The entire claim is an elaborate act of greenwashing. BEVs simply represent a new form of unsustainable resource dependency.

Gdybym nie wspierał EKO -> bagna.pl / CMOK na pewno wsparłbym Watchdog do czego namawiam.
Może watchdogi zrobiliby projekt jakie są powiązania lokalnych polityków oraz urzędników z projektami LOKALNYCH NGOs, które nigdy nie kąsają ręki pańskiej, a tworzą np. pozór proekologicznych działań, wpisują się w narrację polityków tworząc z nimi działania co łącznie można ująć jako #greenwashing ? W tym kontekście pokażcie mi swoje wynagrodzenia i kto na was płaci - taki audyt i łączenie kropek - ma jak najbardziej sens. Po prostu im bardziej się zajmuję aktywizmem, tym więcej widzę powiązań biznesowych i interesów, a miasto, urzędnicy i politycy bardzo sprawnie rozdysponowują granty oraz nie przyznają pieniędzy karnie... oczywiście taki projekt audytu i analizy byłby bardzo kontrowersyjny, bo byłby przysłowiowym kijem w mrowisko...

na podstawie GUS sprawdzenie i są liczby. Patrzę w GUS i widzę, że to info prasowe, a nie standardowe dane. Stąd moje pytanie - skąd i jak można w GUS wyciągnąć info ile w Łodzi posadzono drzew a ile wycięto. Pytam. Ponieważ jeden z kandydatów obiecał 7mln drzew, co przy skali nasadzeń 100 000 (rzekomo) w 2023 to realizacja całego planu zajmie 70 lat. Jednak nie o to w tym chodzi. Dla mnie cała przebiegłość tych liczb to niestety #greenwashing ponieważ UE wymaga czegoś takiego jak nasadzeń jako substytut wyciętych drzew... stąd te liczby to może być element tego, że pod deweloperkę się wycina i nasadza się konkretne liczby. Natomiast oczywiście jest to nierealne do zrealizowania i pracuję nad materiałem dot. tej sprawy. Jeśli ktoś ma pomysł jak wyciągnąć info na ten temat będę wdzięczny dodatkowo szukam swoimi kanałami.

Ostatnio dużo czasu spędziłem na analizie działalności różnych aktywistów i natrafiłem na liczne projekty – niektóre z nich otrzymywały granty w wysokości kilku milionów rocznie – które, mimo ogromnego finansowania, okazywały się być nieskuteczne, edukując o problemach, które nie istnieją. Czasami mam wrażenie, że niektórzy twórcy NGO traktują to jako biznes i nie mają interesu w rozwiązywaniu problemów, które deklarują zwalczać.
Oczywiście nie liczę na jakąkolwiek odpowiedź w fedi na kontrowersyjne i trudne pytania. puszczam to jako przemyślenie i info dla niektórych czytelników.

Recently, I've been delving into the activities of various activists and came across numerous projects – some receiving multi-million grants annually – that proved to be ineffective, educating about non-existent issues.
Sometimes, it feels like some NGO creators have turned this into a business and are not genuinely interested in solving the problems they claim to address.
Of course, I don't expect any response on Fedi to controversial and difficult questions. I'm sharing this as a reflection and information for some readers.
