I'm planning to remove Windows from the rest of my machines soon.
There is a small (big) obstacle though and I'd like to hear your experience.
I'm using #GoogleDrive for the majority of my and the team's workflow. I'm mostly concerned about the sync functionality.
Which #Linux client offers the best, most stable and most similar sync experience to the official Win app?
The second issue is Office365 (offline apps). Can it run reliably in #Wine yet?
(contd...)
Finally, Google Drive now has dark mode. The Dark Reader browser extension is very good, but on certain websites like Google Drive or Web Outlook it adds a bit of latency which is painful at times.
Every website or project should have a dark mode implemented or at least they should be 100% sure that it is fully work flawlessly with Dark Reader.
Most browsers now support the prefers-color-scheme:
You can revoke access to a #GoogleDrive link at any time, but is there a better way?
#ProtonDrive offers a privacy-friendly approach by allowing you to set expiration dates and passwords for links, ensuring secure access to your files and folders.
By me at Forbes: Google has confirmed some users have had files vanish from Drive (for desktop) and issued a fix. Which doesn’t seem to be working for some.
Manual setup was a bit of a pain (they want you to use docker, of course) but well worth it! It does all the collaborative google drive-y things I need it to.
OK, so deleting inactive account data is one thing (well, two if you mean Gmail and Photos) but now people are reporting six months of Google Drive data has vanished. Active Google Drive accounts.
My story at Forbes has been updated this morning with the details.
Trying my luck here:
Anyone using Google Drive in their Linux's file manager?
If so, how can you open files in your own office suite, and not in a browser via Google Docs?
Saw a solution with an extension to LibreOffice, but it didn't work.
Also, open remote file (and choosing Google Drive) didn't work and said invalid device. Which seems like a common problem, but I didn't find a clear solution.
I don't understand why the #whatsapp procedure for migrating between #ios and #android devices can't be as simple as creating a zip file in #icloud and then just copying it into #googledrive. The lock-in effects are great.
Now that I became a linux user (#Fedora38#GNOME to be precise) started distancing from myself from bigtech starting with trying out a 1T storage option provided by a german company #Hetzner (they hosts #Mastodon's main servers as well I think).
On top of storage you get a preinstalled #Nextcloud system so you have all the Basic features like at #GoogleDrive or #OneDrive.
G'day #devs. Our project is looking for a developer to help us with an exciting fediverse-facing Google drive application for educators—and general fedi populations. Experience with app-script and extending the Drive UI (building atop existing FOSS project if possible) helpful. Mostly volunteer, for now, for our nonprofit needs, but there is a commercial spin-off possible.
Please, no google-hate replies. It is what it is. For now.
