Here is a 360° panorama captured by Curiosity at her current location, with North at center and South at both ends, on top of two large and small scale maps with her position.
There are many geological features in the panorama, can you find them in the maps?
The most surprising revelation from NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover — that methane is seeping from the surface of Gale Crater — has scientists scratching their heads.
@pomarede Way back before launch JPL were reviewing the various candidate landing sites for MSL they had a series of workshops, some of those were shared with the public. I remember well the MSL Gale crater workshop and a few of the locations that it would potentially visit. The Gediz Vallis Channel (where the rover is now) has been high on my wish list since those pre-launch days, and here we are now. Here is a the map (three views) of the 4152 location before the 22.4 meter drive on 4155.
There are some days on #Mars where #Curiosity has more geology to look at in #GaleCrater to see than we have time for dedicated imaging. Sol 3812 (April 26, 2023) was one of those days. Rather than miss out, we prioritized a mosaic with the wide-angle camera on #Mastcam to capture a ~100 degree swath of landscape. The results were lovely!
