It will depend on the platform. For example, #Friendica (and to an extent #Hubzilla and #Streams), the owner of the group (and anyone else given moderation access) can block accounts. There is also chirp.social which can also block accounts.
Then there is #GNUsocial, which is a rebranded #StatusNet itself a rebranded #Laconica (the first #Fediverse software, c. 2008) have built-in groups feature; which IIRC, can also block users if needed.
Personally, services like Guppe really need to add moderation features, otherwise, what you just described will more likely happen.
Aside from an error complaining that vendor/autoload.php is missing, I was getting this logging constantly when running docker compose up:
gnu-social-worker-1 | Fatal error: Uncaught LogicException: You need to add "symfony/framework-bundle" as a Composer dependency. in /var/www/social/bin/console:18
gnu-social-worker-1 | Stack trace:
gnu-social-worker-1 | #0 {main}
gnu-social-worker-1 | thrown in /var/www/social/bin/console on line 18
At this point, #GNUSocial still doesn't run correctly because no tables were created in the database. I haven't found any installation scripts for this version of it, either. #fediverse#mastodon
I've been reading the threads of pundits punditing about the future of the #Fediverse, saying that it will only succeed if it gets taken over by Google, or Twitter becomes an instance, or the app gets a no-choices-required signup, or the current users stop being protective of "their" network.
But as long as they keep talking about "the Mastodon protocol" and "the Mastodon network" and fail to see the bigger #Fediverse then they don't know what they're talking about and I'm gonna ignore 'em.
now that @lemmy is seeing a spike in interest, and @Gargron has said he's interested in building out groups on #mastodon - this seems like the right time to update ActivityPub protocol to support groups natively. anyone looking into this?
lemmy's integration into mastodon is pretty janky right now and can be a lot better!
Other variations and extension related to #ActivityPub Groups can be defined in additional FEP's. For instance, there's one about Unbound Group and Organization by @diogo of #GNUSocial that is still in DRAFT..
Qual seria a raiz dessa dificuldade? Seria de servidor? De aplicativo? Da linguagem das plataformas?
@FediGarden@foozmeat maybe if you look at it like this, yes. But the Number of servers was very low for a very long time, so naturally the percentage of old servers can not be high.

Seitdem Mastodon.
In the beginning, there was Laconica, which later became known as StatusNet. A massive amount of the work that went into this is due to Evan Prodromou ( @evan ) , who is now spearheading an effort to standardize work on a communication protocol with the W3C Social Working Group. As a networking project, it was the first public implementation of the communication protocol known as OpenMicroBlogging, which later evolved into the OStatus protocol. These technologies provided a significant building block for future federated networking projects to study and reference.
In terms of how StatusNet was used, it resembled an early version of Twitter, with the added benefit of group functionality. What made it unique is that users on one Laconica server could communicate with users on completely different servers.
