I’m Mookie, I’m a #fediverse nomad, I'm a serial fediverse instance builder and destroyer. You probably already know me from a different follow. :successkid:
Mazie’s Amazing Machines should interest young inspiring inventors and engineers ! It is a fun and really smart read ! I love how the author explains the functioning of each machine at the end of the book. It is the perfect read for young dreamers who want to imagine great things !
A couple of houses down from mine, I have a new-ish #neighbour; moved in last year. There lives a weird kid, in a good way. From talking to him and seeing him doing weird things, it seemed to me he was destined to end up a pretty good engineer in about twenty years.
Today confirmed it. He literally built a Bugs Bunny cartoon trap on the front lawn, to catch ... ?
Thank you for #targeting me with your many open #positions based solely on the occurrence of the word "#software" in my resume.
I particularly appreciate the ones which are onsite, in a country I do not live in, and which I would need a difficult-to-obtain work visa for, if I ever wanted them.
Hey, for last two months I've been #openForJob, and still am. I am a #Python#Engineer with ~9 years of commercial experience, with experience of leading teams who is looking for a next adventure. In case if you have a company in mind, I will be happy for suggestions or discussions :)
I am considering mostly #remote or #hybrid companies present in #EU (team in #Poland would be perfect, as I have a residence permit), or #onsite in Krakow.
Growing up a #nerdy kid you get your ass kicked daily and that shit continues
Nerdy Regina: “i am going to be an #engineer and help people and keep them safe from #hackers “ gets screamed at by users daily gets told to eat shit by companies you are trying to help gets touched by other security people in a bad way i didnt consent to and flamed daily
Been aiming towards a technical accomplishment for months that isn't on any statement-of-work. Getting mostly polite nods and agreements from coworkers.
Yesterday I got it working. Nodders were suddenly excited. "Hey, this is giving me ideas!"
No kidding.
Even in an R&D context, too many are project-focused instead of tool-focused. It isn't about delivering a result, it's about ending up with a capability!
Given the motto of the university I work for, it's very frustrating that the #engineer and the operators barely talk to each other.
The engs don't know what problems need solving, even when working on something adjacent. The ops don't know what the engs are on about and don't have time to learn.
Success here is mostly just showing up to meetings on both sides and being a conduit. A catalyst.
"I think they are building a tool like this. Let me see if I can make it work for you" == a 10% raise
it seems I never really had an introduction message so here goes:
I am tretron, #writer, #dragon, (soon to be) #engineer, and general hacker. I like to shout at computers and design robots. Be it shouting at games, me trying to build a game or writing. I have way to many hobbies and have been in the #furry fandom for offically more then half my life time. While I am a diagnosed autist I don't often state as such so this post is the only time I really state it. I gave up on trying to label my sexuality but I always been male and like it that way.
For the past 7 years i have been working and building my own company and for the last 4 years that has been in selling faux furs in europe with www.dutchcolour.nl (I don't really advertise this here don't worry)
I often volunteer at furry cons.
I try to maintain a engineering blog at : tretron.engineer and my primairy way to upload my stories is https://tretron.sofurry.com/
I am also semi active on the bark matrix if you wanna chat.
I'm wondering if you have any #thoughts on the "#Web#Environment#Integrity" proposal by some #Google folks. I wrote a short thread about it, but would be interested in hearing your thoughts before reading it (if you do read it - I'm not demanding it 😀 ).
Fair enough; I didn't see them. I'll go hunting. Thanks.
I'm a #software#engineer of <mumble> years with extensive work in #network/#internet/#web fields - and the proposal alarms me, simply because so many of the things that make the web #open and #useful to people now would, fairly obviously, not be able to earn a "#trusted" designation by any #WEI "#attester" -- at least not one that had any intention of being #accepted/#blessed by #Chrome etc.
