Booted up my old FirefoxOS ZTE phone. Pretty surprised it booted tbh.

kkarhan,

@tayledras @noiq I wished @mozilla was over with it's self-sabotaging when #FirefoxOS came out.

Because if all they need to stay relevant is "slower speed of #Enshittification than #GoogleChrome & #Chromium" then that's a sad testimony for the #Web in general...

  • {
    font-variant-ligatures: none;
    }

j5s7,

@honze_net Kleiner Nachtrag: Habe #Chromium installiert.

Before I do potentially unnecessary work, has anyone studied the patch gap for Chromium based browsers (Edge vs @brave vs @Vivaldi)?

How many days do users of alternative Chromium browsers have to wait for security patches on average?

Pssst… The public TestFlight for Browser Actions has launched!

It adds macOS Shortcuts support for Brave Browser, Chromium, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi. And for Safari.

All the details and the TF link @ https://actions.work/browser-actions

And TBH, should you like it and tell other people, I totally wouldn't mind. 😅

All major browsers rely on a dark secret: the quirks where native code or the UA stylesheet is varied based on which site you're on.

They're a hell to debug if you're ever caught in one, but they make for interesting stories!

I'm #benchmarking #browsers using https://browserbench.org and #Firefox is MASSIVELY slower than #Chrome.

It's not close at all. #mozilla has a LOT of work to do.

schizanon,

That said, #Edge can't even run #JetStream2 which is weird since all the other #Chromium #browsers can.

Not sure how #Microsoft managed to fuck that up.

#BraveBrowser is installing VPNs without users' consent, even if you didn't willingly enable their #VPN service. Just stop using #Brave, it's garbage.

Edit: the services are disabled by default, but they were still installed with very little to no transparency about them towards the user, alongside all the other stuff that's often unwanted from Brave users (Pocket on Firefox is to blame too, lol.)

This week I will be attending BlinkOn 18. You are still in time to attend to, at least remotely! https://www.chromium.org/events/blinkon-18/

I will do two presentations this time.

On tuesday, I will present a lightning talk where I will talk about the updates to the status of #GCC support in #Chromium.

Then, on wednesday, I will host a breakout session about the challenges of maintaining #downstream projects on top of Chromium.

See you at #BlinkOn!

This is insanity, this is so beyond terrible

Yeah, browsers can too take some time to launch for the first time after not being used for quite some time, but not 9 MINUTES, maximum a minute-two

Chromium 118 (also ungoogled) is a security update

I uploaded new 64bit packages for Chromium 118.0.5993.70 (also the un-googled variant) for which the sources were released a few days ago. This first release in the 118 series addresses a critical vulnerability (CVE-2023-5218) so it's wise to upgrade.
