Today's midweek edition of the Drop features btop, ttyd, Homebrew Bundle, and fastfetch. btop is a resource monitor offering comprehensive system performance metrics and handy process commands. ttyd allows sharing terminal sessions over the web and facilitates file transfers. Homebrew Bundle manages and installs packages consistently, while fastfetch is a faster alternative to neofetch.
The late Monday edition of the Drop focuses on productivity tools and news sources. "btw" is a minimalist blogging platform, while the technique of using a calendar for task allocation is recommended for time management. "News Minimalist" uses a rating system for news significance. Additional text-only news sources are suggested for those who prefer lightweight news consumption.
Today's Drop features two informative tutorials and introduces the font Amstelvar. The "Interactive Type Tutorial" offers a practical approach to mastering typography basics, while "A Variable Fonts Primer" explores the versatility and benefits of variable fonts. Additionally, Amstelvar, a 17-axis variable font inspired by Dutch and Belgian typefaces, is showcased and available for personal and commercial use.
#2.2 rolled over front to back for the first time over the weekend and I think I've watched the video like 30x. Can't wait for both he and #2.1 to be in Acadia with us in a couple weeks.
We have an extra crunchy episode today with the godfather of internet scanning @hdm from @runZeroInc to talk about the evolution of scanning (which is a big reason GN exists), how measuring stuff inside an org is different than canvasing the whole internet, the future of asset/service discovery, and advice for folks who want to get into the industry and/or scanning.
I can't reach https://openstreetmap.org/ with my home Internet (NBN) connection. But I can if I tether my phone and use my 5G connection. I've, i) turned off the PiHoles, ii) Rebooted the router, iii) Changed the DNS Servers on the router and iv) tried multiple devices but just cannot reach this URL on my home network. A traceroute returns an "unknown host".
#4 has some mates over, again, for a board game marathon & I was asked to reprise my jambalaya feast from the other weekend. Did mis en place prep a bit ago and will drop some pix after it's made. Had to double the honey cornbread recipe O_O.
The weekend Bonus Drop covers various AI-centric tools like llamafile, whisperfile, and Firecrawl. llamafile simplifies the deployment of LLM/GPT models for local use, while whisperfile focuses on converting audio files. Firecrawl is a tool for crawling web content and converting it into Markdown format, and is 100% usable in a non-AI context.
@Viss I straight up, in a non-joking fashion, say "don’t do it" whenever someone just starting out says to me they want to get into security and asks what they should do.
