Little Rat - a browser extension for monitoring other extensions
"Little Rat is an open-source extension designed for network traffic monitoring. Easily view, monitor, and block traffic from other Chrome extensions on a per-extension basis."
I use it myself and I think it's a very useful extension for everyone who uses more than just few extensions for different purposes and don't fully trust them that they send no data as the developer promises, this extension can monitor the network and act as a firewall per-extension basis.
I know people complain about @Vivaldi being not fully open and being based on #Chromium, but you just can't beat #Vivaldi when it comes to features. I read a lot on the Internet, but sometimes I just don't have the time to do it right now. Vivaldi has an integrated #ReadingList which I can just add my current page to with relative ease. To make it easier, I created a #CommandChain to add the current tab to the Reading List and then close it. I put that chain on my toolbar with a custom icon.
I can't even login to #Google. After entering my password, the tab just stops working. It stops interacting. No clicks, no tabbing, no arrow cursor.
I can't event open about:support it hangs.
I can't use #Facebook, eventually the tab will stop interacting. No clicks, no tabbing, no arrow cursor.
I can't watch videos on #YouTube. If the YT ads play first, it will get stuck there. If the actual video plays first, after a few seconds it will either get stuck at some frame, or just keep playing without any interaction (can't stop, etc.)
#Firefox sucks so much I can't use it as my primary browser on #Linux, #Ubuntu or #Android. (Sucks means crashes and locks up my devices when handling lots of tabs, which is how I work).
What sucks even more is that it's the only viable candidate that isn't #Chromium based.
Even worse, #Google is using this #Chrome monopoly to impose an ever more enclosed, centralised and oppressive web. 😱
Firefox used to do the job but went bad, got a bit better, but is now useless.
Applescript support in #ArcBrowser is pretty broken. One space, one window, three tabs open, but via Applescript it reports a list of 57 (!) dysfunctional Tab objects.
Please do not make your application dependent on some arcane #GNOME specific setting, even in non-GNOME desktop environments, that doesn't even work and isn't respected even within most of GNOME itself half the time anyways
And please don't remove the previous command line flags that worked prior to this nonsensical nonsense
Now the only way to have dark mode consistently within Chromium is to export GTK_THEME session-wide in ~/.profile
Ci sono più motivi, alcuni più controversi di altri ma uno che mi sembra ugualmente condivisibile è questo: manteniamo per tutti la possibilità di scegliere.
As I just discovered, #Mastodon can be installed as a Progressive Web App. This is supported by Chromium-based browsers and possibly others.
I can now run it directly from my #GNOME desktop. #PWA#Chromium#linux
"Scientists think the heat of severe wildfires can transform a benign version of the metal, which is found commonly in California soil, into a notorious carcinogen.
In its trivalent form, #chromium is relatively harmless and abundant. But heat that is more than 390 degrees Fahrenheit can catalyze chemical reactions that transform it into its more dangerous form, hexavalent chromium, the new study said."
Would it really be such a bad thing if firefox switched to becoming chromium based?
Isn't chromium opensource? Even though google has full control of the project, can't it just be forked if needed?
I get that engine competition is good, but having a base standard is also good.
I mean, linux users for the most part use the same linux kernel, and there doesn't seem to be a huge movement demanding different kernels competing with each other. 🤔
This means, among other things, that uBlock Origin is about to be disabled in Chrome. Google will choose a different extension to recommend but it can not be as effective as #uBlock Origin.
Following #Google's example, may I instead recommend you switch to #Firefox.
Firefox will continue to support Manifest v2, and consequently uBlock Origin and other extensions that can not be implemented with Manifest v3.
Looking for a top-notch #browser for your #Mac? Look no further than #ArcBrowser. With its advanced Split Views and other impressive features, Arc is the perfect tool to help you improve your #macOS#web browsing experience. Plus, it's built on the #Chromium platform, so you can rest assured that it's fast, stable, and secure.
Commentary: Will #Firefox rise like phoenix from the ashes in 2024? https://www.ghacks.net/2024/01/07/will-firefox-rise-like-phoenix-from-the-ashes-in-2024/ "The unlocking of full add-ons support in Firefox for Android may be the fire-starter that Mozilla needed." I wonder how many users will notice Manifest v3. I've used Firefox on PC for 20 years, but on Android I use Kiwi, a Chromium browser that blocks ads and supports many add-ons. #Android#Chromium
Google admits Chrome Incognito mode tracks users — what you need to know
"For those that are fed up with #Chrome and are looking for a more privacy-focused alternative, you might want to consider #Brave or, if you have the technical know-how, #Tor."
Can confirm. Brave is significantly more privacy-focused than any of the other #Chromium alternatives.
I really can't understand what #Firefox is doing for 9 minutes on cold boot while reading/writing 12 MB/s to disk
This is insanity, this is so beyond terrible
Yeah, #Chromium browsers can too take some time to launch for the first time after not being used for quite some time, but not 9 MINUTES, maximum a minute-two
