Inauspicious start to the morning: got out of bed (late, tossing and turning due to torrential rain), landed in a cold, wet puddle. Pardon me while I got make some coffee. #rain#CAwx
Everyone on our ham radio net is discussing the performance (or non-performance) of solar inverters/generators/etc. during the power outages in my part of Ventura County last night. More generators/power backup among our group than the general public. #hamradio#power#grid#PSPS#wildfires#CAwx
Okay, who broke the ICON weather model?!?! Total rain for Ojai from 2/1/24 10am to 2/7/24 7pm says... 23.38 inches in the Ventusky display of ICON. #wx#CAwx#rain#ICON
How likely do you think it will be that ill be able to a) drive across LA to LAX and then b) fly to SFO tomorrow morning... I have no idea how to estimate the navigability of coastal California during this storm #CaWx
"Extreme" Wet Bulb Globe Temperature forecast from the NWS in interesting. I wonder if it's calibrated or not. 96F WBGT here, which is maybe (?!) somewhere near the limits of humans without supplemental air conditioning... (technical details on this are not clear to me). #CAwx#AZwx#TXwx#NVwx#heatwave#WBGT
For California weather watchers, that other place 🙄 has had quite a meltdown this week (rampant misinformation by "blue check" nobodies)... rumors, more rumors, angry and hurt meteorologists and scientists... more rumors.
While we can say confidence is increasing in widespread rain chances next week, we can't quite comment on how much precipitation we'll see, and exactly when it'll happen. Those details at this point in time are very uncertain. #CAwx
Key takeaway: If there's a legit reason to worry about next week's rain, we or another core NWS partner will let you know. Please be conscious of where your weather info is coming from and ensure it is a credible and professional source. #CAwx
Radar at 12/21 1804 currently shows the storm is parked offshore from Los Angeles (dumping quite a bit there). Still raining in Oxnard. #rain#CAwx#LosAngeles#SanDiego
It's currently 24f and there's about 2 ft of new snow on the ground since yesterday at #ForkedMeadow#California which absolutely outstanding for the water year.
This is a relatively late and cold storm for the central #SierraNevada where for the last decade or so the snow usually has let up by April. But things aren't normal with the weather anymore in the #Sierras and the mountains are having odd weather just like everywhere else 😬
