Here, but not here. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what drove me off Mastodon. #Zionism, #Islamophobia, #AntiArabRacism (an odd one to affect me, since I am NOT #Arab, nor have I ever claimed to be) were the usual suspects.
Instance #admins & #mods did what they do best on the fediverse: they attacked. I was but one of a handful of #ProPalestine voices on here that needed to be silenced. #Dogpiling is one of their tactics. People come out of the woodwork to attack. It overwhelms.
If you get a #followRequest without your account being locked, the #admins of your #instance have paid attention in advance and warn you about a suspicious account. You can still allow it as a follower, but the one today was indeed extremely suspicious and rubbish.
Friendly reminder: To thank your admins and instance for all their work you can #donate! Find the possibilities on your instance's page. The #Fediverse is #adfree but good #moderation/building instances costs time/money. And - tada:

Lots of individual per process limit settings but can't find the broad brush. Left as it was it just grabs more and more and more memory, crossing the 50% threshold after a week or so.

Remember, your admins/co-admins work hard to do many things for you have an enjoyable place to call home. Donating just a couple of dollars a month goes a long way and will go towards server costs and helps admins know they are appreciated for all the hard work they do each and every day!
How long do we tolerate #spam from an instance? If new accounts are still popping up to spam us after a week, I think we are justified in concluding that the instance is #unmoderated (#admins can lock down signups), and #block the whole instance. Or am I being too harsh?

#Admins: Part of this process is accepting responsibility and the additional work. You can ask for compensation, you can say no, you can moderate content in myriad ways, but you can't just ignore message after message, all the while posting about your own success.
