At the gathering, Thomas Jansson (Tubesockor) and I did a little presentation about SidFactory 2 with support for hardware based synths like the . By interfacing SID synths with SF2 and the excellent web player, you can play, edit and live remix SID music on real SID chips using your own laptop.

Watched Dune part two yesterday.

Impressive visuals and a great atmosphere again.

What keeps me from giving both Dunes a top rating though is a certain sense of detachment. The film feels like watching an impressive desert dream from a distance. Characters are almost robotically cool and skilled, or psychopathically evil and skilled, but there's a lack of character depth, of identifiable human warmth and emotions, and of humor, which are important properties for characters to become likeable.

@metin As much as I wanted to like the movie, I haven’t yet made it through part one. Like you say, impressive visuals but I couldn’t get engaged with the story and the characters so I went to go do something else. Will try again though.

@thezerobit Semver. We need to support at least two major versions for a period that allows all consumers to switch. Minor versions for adding new optional behaviour. Patch versions for bug fixes and documentation changes.

In the late 1980s I was a young Amiga game dev and "demo-scene" guy, member of the Digital Force International.

Back then, I liked an Amiga music track called Journey Through Galaxy, by Darius Zendeh, a.k.a. Mark II.

To surprise a friend in those days, I made this a cappella tribute to the track with our composer Ramon Braumuller, using our sampled voices.

@metin Funny ;) I also made a few silly tunes with only friends voices, for a laugh. I was pretty fascinated by the ability of a tracker to “pitch” voices (really just speeding up and slowing down) and turn it into an instrument.

When I was a 16-bit game graphics creator, I got accustomed to thinking in multiples of 16, for sprite dimensions, game scenery patterns, image resolutions, RGB color values and more.

That became a lasting habit. Even now, long after using multiples of 16 was necessary, I'm still entering 16, 32, 48, 64, et cetera, when numerical input is required. Does anyone happen to recognize this? 🙂

@metin Definitely. When using arbitrary numbers on a computer I usually round up to the nearest power of two, just because it looks better, more efficient. Every once in a while my son will ask me to recite the sequence of doubling numbers, he likes that I can ‘calculate’ so quickly ;)

Just some thoughts...

When AI and AI-powered robots will be able to do anything, and make any human effort redundant, you'd expect each human generation to become less competent and developed. Will humanity become to AI what animals are to us now?

Also, a universal basic income will become a necessity, as AI will be better and cheaper than humans for every task, even for improving AI.

I know that AI has no real intelligence yet, no consciousness et cetera, but I guess that's a matter of time.

@metin I was thinking how we cannot agree on who created mankind. What if there comes a time when AI only has a vague idea left who created it, and we are long gone. What if this is just history repeating itself, one ruling species getting ahead of itself and inadvertently creating the next superior species.

One of my favorite Commodore 64 music composers is Martin Galway. He had a signature sound, often featuring arpeggios.

This is Martin's Comic Bakery game title tune, featuring the bassline from Level 42's Hot Water (Sons and Daughters).

I loved listening to this as a youngster, playing along with my air guitar. 🎸😁

please stop presenting using light mode as something worth mocking or a worse experience

very often light mode is an accessibility and readability feature

some people just can't read on dark backgrounds well for example

or need higher contrast in general

or just work in a high-brightness environment where light mode just works better for them

When you discover an interesting tool, and it turns out there's no executable GUI, but to get it running you need to pip a git, hub a stub, sudo a judo, brew a stew, python a cobra and unix a linux… 🤡

As a youngster around 1990 I worked on the first Dutch TV show that was completely created using a computer. An Amiga with Deluxe Paint to be precise.

The show was called Mannetje & Mannetje, and featured a low-resolution mix of digitized photographs and drawn elements.

Some graphics are cut off outside the TV safe area. The magenta color was used for keying, using a Genlock device to record the footage for broadcasting.
