Hey, I'm Tom. I love technology and all things open source.

I have a bunch of :raspberrypi:'s running my home lab, keeping my personal life off the internet. Still a way to go before I'm completely offline, a major issue being Google Home.

I run :debian: with :xfce: and my gaming computer does too! I also have a Fairphone4 which runs :lineageos2: with MindTheGapps.

@Twitter_expat @Gargron I love the ease of finding people with similar interests through the hashtag system. It feels much more natural, a bit like joining a D&D group, you know you all have the same interests.

If you want #fingerprint support with #LightDM you can uninstall lightdm-gtk-greeter and instead install slick-greeter which is an alternate front end to LightDM. You can get GUI settings with lightdm-settings, but the settings file is super simple to use.

As long as sudo uses your fingerprint, this will too.

Anyone know what happened to the #LineageOS builds last week? Are new builds being produced now? I can't find the server that runs the official builds, on the old website they linked to the server so you could see the build queue.

On the #Linux #Terminal, is there a way to list all #systemctl issues? For example, show the number of and which #services have issues, the same way cockpit does in the web interface?

Answer via @kura

systemctl list-units --state failed

You can find all states with

systemctl list-units --state help

or via @luap

systemctl --failed

How long do you think Raspberry Pi OS will continue to provide support for 32-bit boards?

@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@passthejoe 64bit isn't even their primarily offered architecture yet, I'd say it's still got many years of life left.

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@passthejoe Upstream, AFAIK Debian has no plans to kill 32 bit support.

@revk Not quite related, but I ended up getting a doorbell that's powered by the push of the button. It's been running for years, and I'm so happy with it. So much easier than having a battery run out and not know it.

@linux_mclinuxface@fosstodon.org avatar

Why must smoke alarms always decide to start low-battery chirping at 4am?

I would definitely pay extra for one with a small back up battery and a real time clock that would only low-battery chirp between 9am and 9pm.

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@linux_mclinuxface Mines wired into the house, with a battery backup, never had the horrible beep.

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@linux_mclinuxface Heard unplugging them stops them from beeping. Because replacing a battery at 2am is too hard.

Are there really people that honestly believe the Earth is...
Or is it just someone seeking attention by being in some cult?

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@revk Also being part of a 'collective' is in the DNA of Humans, unfortunately the idea's that bring the groups together can be anything.

Why would anyone join a suicide cult? Well because others are. Why do people believe X? Because other people do.

This has been proven many times, all it takes to start something like this is a small group of people making a joke. Or a singular well-spoken person who has mental deficiencies.

Done! So much simpler than it seems WorkingDirectory is pretty awesome.

So now I have tblock, which has an issue with its built in systemd files. See if I can get that working.

Trying to get in to a routine with the new Apple Watch.

For years I have used a Powerwatch which does not need charging, well, maybe a couple of times a year in the Winter. It uses solar and thermal, which is great.

The Apple watch lasts 3 days, but what I need to do is get in to a habit of charging at some point every day.

Not while sleeping, as use to track sleep.

But also not every 3 days, as no way to make that a "routine".

My current plan is "when I poor a whisky" 🙂

tripplehelix,
@tripplehelix@fosstodon.org avatar

@revk I hate the battery life of smartwatches. Charging a watch regularly is annoying. It really ruins all use cases. Went and got a .
