So, real question: at this point, even if there is a ceasefire, what will it accomplish? It'll be like a pause and little else. Because the IDF has literally murdered q0s of thousands of civilians and they continue to make life synonymous with Hell in Gaza...do you think people will forget that and let bygones be bygones?

At first, I only saw "pause" as a cynical political ploy. And from a lot of people it's probably used that way.

Then I read about Israeli citizen and hostage negotiator Gershon Baskin. I don't know what his wellspring is, but he never gives up fighting for peace. He fights for a pause, because during a pause it'll be easier to fight for a longer ceasefire. He seems to always go for the next available step to reduce harm in some way. No pause, he fights for child hostage release.

I don't know how you end a millenia long blood feud. I think Gershon takes a very tactical, work on the nearest problem, then the next, then the next approach. I don't know where his hope comes from. I don't know why he doesn't see it as futile. Gershon Baskin's hope gives me hope.

All my litmus tests are fallible, but a focus on community & sustainability is my guideline now.

It's frustrating and ironic that the most polished community projects are probably the ones suffering internally from the most fucked up incentives. The capitalist screws are being tightened, I imagine news of projects failing their communities will become even more commonplace before we make necessary corrections.

For some reason this looks like the most phenomenal POVRay rendering I've ever seen.

This could be on the cover of a book with a CD-ROM sleeve glued to the inside back flap with a disc of software for raytracing, viewing TARGA images, and a sampler of public domain images the publisher scraped from an FTP archive.

Editor of SFF books would certainly be welcome on dice.camp. My husband's main is there and I have an ALT on it. It's a chill gaming and TTRPG centric community, but anything within the guidelines goes. Well maintained.

Sage errs on the side of silencing large instances like mastodon.social; so, ill suited for self-promotion? That's a worthwhile tradeoff to ask your partner about if you haven't already: where on the line between safety and reach would she like to start out?

Good news, everyone! The Yurok Tribe will now co-manage 125 acres of Redwood forest, a gateway to the state/national park, along with the National Park Service.

The tribal nation signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday with Redwood national and state parks and the non-profit Save the Redwoods League.

so this is a bit wild

i've got an oldie iPad 2 running iOS 9.3.5. this has some expired root certificates which results in several apps not working properly. Plex will load, but it won't be able to negotiate with your plex server, for instance.

since apple doesn't offer new iOS updates for it (with refreshed certificates).. it seemed like i was kinda stuck.

as it turns out, and is documented nowhere aside from a post on reddit, you can manually download your own root certificate - and iOS lets you install it without complaint.

if you're on an ancient iOS device, just point its Safari browser to this url: https://letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.der

tap Install when prompted - and you've got working certificates again!

this just breathed new life into a 10+ year old iPad, which will become a bedtime plex viewer.

If anyone is curious as I was why the URL of that certificate has "groot" in it. It's the ISRG ROOT x10 certificate and ISRG is Internet Security Research Group.

Which is 3 for me in a row (including VGA256's original post).

Despite that, I will continue to think of it as the certificate that says, "I AM GROOT".

I'm reminded of how Diet Coke was conceived as for women 'cuz men in the '80s didn't diet unless they were gay.

Eventually they made Coke Zero in almost all black packaging and advertised on Monday Night Football. In the late '90s and in the '00s it was okay for men to pay attention to diet so long as they were angry when they did it.

By today they toned the masculine coding down a few times until now it just resembles the OG Coca-Cola packaging and art style.
