#Today was the last school day before the autumn vacations in Berlin, and that's always a great feeling. Two weeks (or at least one...) of time for everything & everyone who is dear to you. Since we do not travel, I try to implement a small "Irish" #art project, which I have long planned, a big living room painting of my favourite landscape! I've just started with sketches of old walls, which is difficult, but also fun.

Back in Berlin my daughter, 14, had the first sports lesson at a new school. Teacher, around 50, female, explained the dress code: No tight-fitting shorts, no wide necklines, girls with large "bust sizes" must wear a sports bra. Anything else would "irritate the boys". Daughter felt deeply unsettled and sexualised by that. At her Irish school last year the (male) sports teacher told the students "Your body belongs to you, you must feel comfortable."

"Hands Across the Divide" is a sculpture in Derry, Northern Ireland. The statue was created by Maurice Hatton, and erected in 1992. It symbolizes reconciliation between both sides of the political divide during the so called "Troubles" in NI.

I don't understand why there's hardly any talk about the environmental desaster that's probably connected with the rocket explosion now. Will Mr. Musk walk along the coastline and collect the rubbish he's just produced? Why is it still accepted to waste all that fuel, pollute the atmosphere and use the ocean as a wastebin, let the whole thing explode and still describe it as a "success"? Does anyone really think that there should be an interstellar shuttle?

I walked on limestone again and saw many of those little water holes with ocean creatures in it, who tried to hide there until the next tide would come in. Look at the sea anemone who is just wrapping herself in. I also wonder if the white underground could be some sort of salt deposit from the salty water. There are moments when I'd really like to be an oceanographer...

I saw this funny pollinator in the brambles this morning. Looks like a mixture of a bumblebee and some beetle. Very fluffy head and the interesting pattern on the back with the cushion style border around it. Do you have any ideas?

When I had just arrived in Ireland a year ago, I was invited to take part in a painting course. The aim was to transfer a photo onto a canvas using oil paints. At first I thought it was boring because it was just about copying something, but then I realised that it was a quiet exercise, almost like meditation. So at the end I painted (copied😉) my landlady's dog for her as a farewell gift.

On the right is a small dark door in the house's wall, it looks more like a gap. The bright blue and white colours at the edge on the right in the background could be a glimpse of the sea and the sky.

36°C in Berlin today, but dog and I have found a place in the shadow to swim a bit and cool down from the heat. Problem will be to walk back home later. Tomorrow I'll try to get up very early, but Alma is a late riser, she can't do long walks too early in the morning... How do you handle your dog walks during the heat times?
