@ismh86 Any chance you have a CAD program for MacOS you like and can recommend?

@hotdogsladies also worth looking into is OnShape. Purely web based.

Choosing a travel backpack is really hard, and I still haven't found one I love, so mostly for my own reference I wrote a long post with thoughts on pretty much every travel backpack out there https://christianselig.com/2024/04/choosing-a-backpack-is-hard/

If you have other recommendations gimme

@christianselig I am not sure you can get all those requirements into a bag that is <3.5lbs, but the Mission Workshop Radian seems close? It doesn't come cheap, but your list of requirements don't leave a lot of room for corner cutting. https://missionworkshop.com/products/radian-travel-pack

@christianselig They're hand made, I wonder if you can shoot them an email to see if they'd make you one without all the Arkiv rails on it. Should drop the weight a bit.

@daringfireball fantastic product! Use it every day, and itโ€™s been the best remote worker solution for us at work as well, bringing MFA via 365 SSO.

    @matdevdug #eero for sure. Their latest TrueMesh updates have made my existing hardware even faster than they were when they shipped.

    Have them running at eight friends and familyโ€™s homes now. No issues.

    Iโ€™m surprised the setup process for every new iPhone still asks whether you want to use FaceID with a mask when 99+% of people arenโ€™t wearing face masks any more. There are lots of features that a small percentage of people use, but they donโ€™t get asked in the device setup process.

    @gruber I deploy iPhones at work in healthcare environments. Using Face ID with a mask is a โ€œhave your cake and eat it tooโ€ when it comes to security without compromising convenience.

    Another year, another new phone classic conundrum. What do YOU do during setup?!

    (And does EITHER method prevent you from having to sign-in again to every app in the universe!?)

    thatsthequy,
    @thatsthequy@mastodon.social avatar

    @cabel I tried connecting the phones with a USB-C to lightning cable, but no cigar. Maybe theyโ€™ll bring back the direct wired transfer next year.

    thatsthequy,
    @thatsthequy@mastodon.social avatar

    @cabel the kind peeps at my local Apple Store had no answer for wired transfer. They were suggesting iCloud restores for everyone, but I know those cause you to have to sign into more apps after.

    The wifi at the store was getting nuked though. The wireless transfer slowed to โ€œ2 daysโ€ and quickly finished within 30 minutes as soon as we left the store (which they also claimed would kill the transfer)

    For those who have an #eero system, has anybody seen dropouts on the latest release v6.16.2-88? I've seen random dropouts on different devices at different times. I did not experience any of this on the last version.

    thatsthequy,
    @thatsthequy@mastodon.social avatar

    @waynedixon dropouts of eero nodes or clients (or both!)?

    For the last several updates itโ€™s been smooth sailing for me and the six other networks I manage for friends and family.

    How are yours hooked up?

    @tailscale my initial test of using the Apple TV as an exit node does not work. I added Google DNS to my tailnet just in case that was the issue, but it still does not work.

    Playing around with Safari Web Apps on the macOS Sonoma beta. It would be super cool if there were an advanced capability to add injected JavaScript to the resulting web page. I'd like to fine tune the interface of some sites. Looking at you, Wordle...
