I hope you all appreciate how much restraint I have shown in sharing pictures from our Scotland-London-Norfolk trip. I've taken over 2000…so far… 😬

Wandering about the grounds at Blickling House we took a wrong turn, but we're rewarded by finding this beautiful cluster of small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata). They believe they are about 600 years old.

We've been in London, doing a few London things. The other day, we went to Kew Gardens. We visited the Temperate (as in climate) House and Kew Palace, but spent most of the day walking around admiring their trees.

Looking across the lake, which is reflecting the gray sky and the surrounding trees. A patch of yellow flowers is growing along rocks on the right.

@aardrian We decided not to do Cutty Sark, but we walked past it on the way to and from the Tube!

I met a venerable old shore beast today. I told them how much I liked their hair cut. They seemed quite pleased to hear that.

A face view of the shore beast. Their face is a little lopsided, but their imposing chin makes up for it.

Heather Cox Richardson is so good. Today she reminds us that "“Mothers’ Day”—with the apostrophe not in the singular spot, but in the plural—actually started in the 1870s, when the sheer enormity of the death caused by the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War convinced writer and reformer Julia Ward Howe that women must take control of politics from the men who had permitted such carnage."
Let's all celebrate that one, instead of the one that just celebrates childbirth.

I've missed out on the aurora here on the Isle of Skye. The days are very long as we approach the solstice and it's still not full dark at midnight ... and I just can't stay up later than that after hiking all over the place during the day. I tried my phone to see if it could see something I couldn't, but no joy.

I love Spring. The still leafless trees are tipped with tiny flowers and leaf buds, with all the wild colors of Fall but painted with a tiny brush

@gbhnews We have a lovely old White Pine in our suburban backyard. Without cutting it down and counting its rigs, we have to guess its age - it could be close to 100. It's about 2 feet across at the base.

So... I left Evernote months ago when they hiked their pro plan subscription (like 163% !) It was bloated, and their free plan was crippled; that + the company had been struggling for years to find a CEO who could bring some kind of vision back to the app. It all flopped and they were sold to Bending Spoons.

Over the ensuing months, I was fortunate to find a replacement! An Open Source, fully encrypted, Evernote killer. And what a note taking app it has become.

A major release (v3.0) was launched officially today. 8 months of non-stop development and testing by a two-man Dev team has really brought this app center stage. These guys are hands-on with listening to user feedback on their NN Discord server; when they find time to sleep beats me (the plight of the developer).
Read about this latest journey AND all of the great new features of v3.0 that are note-taking game changers, on their blog post:

https://blog.notesnook.com/introducing-notesnook-v3/

You're going to hear more about Notesnook in the weeks and months to come and it won't be coming from me. It will be from a growing userbase that can't help but share the awesomeness that Notesnook brings to notetaking.

@NeadReport @notesnook I had never used a notes app (although I took a peek at the MS one once, and I couldn't see how it would do anything for me at the time.) But @redcrew tipped me off about Notesnook and hooboy does it fit into my life! I keep finding uses for it.

Hi from Functioning-WiFi Laffy!

Pro tip: You don’t need to use NFL (Not For Laffy) on days when I’m not live-posting trial threads.

NFL is only applicable when I need to skip your replies (they pile up enormously even on non-trial and slow days), but no need to extend that courtesy on non-proceedings days.

And thanks again for being considerate enough to use it when I need you to. It really helps.

Kthxbye.

sbourne,
@sbourne@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff I figure I don't have to reply to everything, so on your thread days I just say it to myself. It's the reverse of "never interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake": "Never interrupt your ally when they're knocking it our of the park."

@thisismyglasgow So many of the tiles you post are the same color scheme: that beautiful deep green and the smoldering orange. Is there a story behind that? Are the pigments local perhaps?
