I’m old and I miss the “world wide web” in which you receive a link from someone and the page shows exactly what you were linked.

For example, this is what happens when someone sends me a link to Facebook (I don’t have the Facebook app or a Facebook account).

This aggressive behaviour is basically the same for all major social platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, etc)

Facebook webpage trying twice to open the Facebook app that it’s not installed, and safari showing me an error that it can’t open the invalid address. Then, cookie selection, Facebook that wants me to login every time I scroll and showing me random stuff

There's no standard definition for the point at which an attack on a target within Russia becomes a "direct attack" by NATO, any more than NATO couldn't interpret an attack by a Russian proxy as an attack by Russia. The US is risking nuclear war, and to what end?

I think it's unlikely Russia would use nukes if that would alienate their allies, so I'd look very closely at what countries like China say about this. China is the only country with a "no first use" policy, but I can imagine that changing as they contemplate the potential for conflict with the US over Taiwan.

I see people idealizing France because « two former presidents were convicted », and because here « no one is (supposed to be) above the law », but please stop doing that. 😔

In both cases the sentence was largely disappointing in relation to the seriousness of their crimes, and none of them actually went to prison.
More generally, corrupt politicians go unpunished here as well, and our « justice » system is also rotten to the core. 😬

The last time a political leader here received the treatment they truly deserved actually dates back to 1793, so it’s been a long time. 😐

If you ever wanted to see how a failing NVME SSD underneath #OpenBSD 's softraid crypto layer looks like, here you.

From one moment to another, the system was unusable due to the sheer amount of softraid failures. I cannot boot beyond single user mode because the partitions cannot be marked as clean.

I had proper backup, so reinstalling on another SSD wasn't a problem. I could mount the dirty partitions r/o and so transfer the diff over as well.

Do I like AI? No. Do I like Google? Definitely not. But I love the fact that NotebookLM allows me to ask questions from my own source materials and get answers back.I have never been able to ask a book to clarify something before... But now I can. And when I can do that with dense and lengthy philosophy books to help solidfy concepts that flew over my head, it feels like an amazing superpower.
