Germany floods: Firefighter dies during rescue in Bavaria

A firefighter was killed when the rubber dinghy he was riding on capsized during severe flooding and at least two people are missing in south Germany as the region braces for more rainstorms. DW has the latest.

#ClimateDiary where i really want to share this graph is in family, friend, neighbourhood, etc WhatsApp groups. Which is what I used to do, 2019-2023. I know, in theory i could just post. But in practice it really does become impossible to keep on doing it for 5 years when the messaging from everyone is clear: we don’t want to hear; you’ve told us before. Deathly silence, every time.

@enoch_exe_inc yes, it’s the combination of graphs, your experiences, and of course daily horrific climate news from many different parts of the world (85 dead on India’s heatwave, birds falling dead from sky, etc etc). It couldn’t be any clearer; all the evidence is there. #ClimateDiary

Hmmm. I fully see your point,and scientific methods speaking you are right, of course. Nevertheless, in terms of accepting that this really is happening, right now, at a personal level: it helps to bring it home if graphs, news, and your own experiences all correlate.

2/2 Liberal, “nice” papers play a key role in preserving the status quo. It’s all become super evident with the NYT recently but the Guardian also functions in this way. It significantly contributed to the vilification of Corbyn, and so much more. It does all this more subtly than Daily Telegraph or Daily Mail, but it’s no less effective for that reason.

#GE2024 What have Labour done in their first campaign week? Deselected left-wing (not Israel supporting) candidates!! Diane Abbott (not sure but looks like it), now Doctor Faiza Shaheen, in Chingford, and more. This is appalling. Really angry. #UKPolitics

EDIT: it’s become a bit of a 🧵 because i am so angry. But honestly: everyone should be very angry about this, on Faiza’s behalf and for us all.
