Does anyone know of a Year Zero Engine based game (or something similar) that uses a Doom Pool?

The mechanic I had was too... "doomy". I'd rather borrow from something that works than try and reinvent this wheel.

I haven't run a pbta game yet, but the advice I've read is to

  • only call for a roll when failure is interesting
  • the GM can choose use a soft move (a setup) or a hard move (follow-through), so I can go easy on my players if I want to

not talking from experience though

@masukomi have you played any PbtA games? Complicating players lives on bad rolls is a thing there too. They don’t have a pool system though.

@masukomi I bought all the star wars box sets so I have 4 sets of their dice - so if I play genesys it's all star wars symbols 😂

any experience or advice on how to translate 炎上する in a social media context?

After something with an analytical/technical nuance rather than slang

"flaming" comes to mind, but "flame war" comes up on weblio as ののしり合戦 / 罵倒戦争 / etc. and suggests that there's not a tight overlap

JP wikipedia has 炎上（えんじょう）とは、インターネット上のコメント欄などにおいて、稚拙な批判や誹謗中傷などを含む投稿が集中することをいう
...
「否定的な意見」の方をより多く包含するものを炎上とし

So closer to "attract significant negative online attention"?

@piepants @fetchezlavache a base windows 11 install has you saving all your data in your documents folder to OneDrive by default. It's annoying to have to diagnose that functionality in the first place. When you do turn onedrive sync off, your files disappear from your local computer too! Such user hostile design ...

my September income (= translation sales) was a bit over half of August income

but that came with me:

  • taking it easy for a couple of days after the summer heat (also read as me playing Baldur's Gate 3)
  • looking after the family after partner got covid around Sep 12
  • looking after youngest who got hand/foot/mouth disease and was mostly eating pudding and yogurt for a few days due to a mouth sore

so, pretty decent all-in-all. Partner also doing better 3 weeks later.

My Mum had talked of too much milk not being good for her, so I switched to almond milk for my afternoon tea - shitting less in the afternoon as a result

@kyonshi our 2yo had their day care’s sports day on Saturday and we took them to swimming lessons (=splashing around) that afternoon.

The Sunday they had a fever and of course I was worried about potential C19, but they were right as rain on Monday, so presumably just tired? I dunno how tired leads to fever, but kids are different in many ways I guess.

Hope yours is ok.

I need to remember to do my poo samples for the poo test they'll do (検便検査 けんべんけんさ)

便 べん means poo/feces/stool
検査 けんさ test
検 けん by itself means test, so you could read 検便検査 as poo test test if you were being pedantic

for the linux nerds out there 大便 だいべん (daiben, also meaning feces) is close in pronunciation to a certain large distribution that I've heard it's the unofficial name in some quarters

I am reading through The Dresden Files RPG and it is truly impressive how much @evilhat ‘s thinking about FATE as well as how to create worlds and tell stories with RPGs has evolved since then.

A huge aspect of this is that they have clearly developed a better understanding of the people who play games like these, and how to guide them through collaborative play and worldbuilding.

    Omg this revised paper has like 200 words of new editing and 4000 words of previously edited mostly unchanged text….so no biggie —very smol job in terms of amount of work and revenue. But, the job folder has 21 files in it 😩

    This is because the journal has them spilt the manuscript into parts and each part has a comparison to show the client’s revision. 😮‍💨
