I just found out that a friend of mine who I've known since the early 1980's just passed after a reasonably long fight with pancreatic cancer (that's not long by the way). I looked at my last text with her and it was "you know the supreme Court is complicit in insurrection right?" She replied "yes" but that was at the end of February and she was already having issues with surgery and treatment.

She was a Judge, a mom and my friend and the first person I ever went out on a "real date" with.

Keep track of your people, people, you never know when they may not be there anymore.

In case you're not from 1995 The Internet I'd like to introduce you to a PC video game from LucasArts called The Dig, 16 bit so you'll be in DosBox emulator land but still, hell of a game which you can apparently play on the Way back machine;

Https://archive.org/details/TheDig_1020

This may be just a prequel version, I'll find a full copy. EDIT, okay it's on Steam.

If you're the person who designed the charting function in Excel please never tell me because I really don't want to have to come to your home and kick you in the crotch over and over and over.
That is all, thank you.

For those of you following me, I award myself one grappa glass of each time trump is held accountable by the justice system. It's getting light but not quickly enough, I may need a really, really good bottle for election night.

Poppies, valerian and more roses! Great light today, it's clouding up but the sunlight leaking through is an interesting color. I don't touch up any of these pics, I just take each view 20 or so times and discard all but the best.

A red rose with a bunch of roses from the same bush blurry in the background
A startlingly orange poppy in a mixed background
Valerian flowers, lots of them!

Have to admit that I never liked the Nintendo SNES. However, for such a low spec'ed CPU (a slightly more powerful 16bit 6502, the 68516), it did deliver a very good arcade-like experience for Mortal Kombat 2!

I remember playing this at a friend's house.

My kids were playing this two days ago on a retro gaming rig; "no! You can't use Hondo! Right, or the electric guy! I hate the electric guy!"
Or something very, very similar....

Reading up on electric fences to keep bears out of the yard, as you do. So far, I haven’t found anything that would keep bears out that wouldn’t hurt the dogs.

Today I tried working with f stop and a sprinkler. 3.2 is pretty as is 32 but 14 was kind of ugly so I didn't post it.

Same basil plant at f stop 32 the water droplet pathways leave a line across the image
A purple iris is shown up close and personal

Part of our summer is driving from Colorado to Maine and back with my kids. We usually stop at Mammoth Caves and other national parks but this year my daughter is already in Maine working for the summer so it's just me and a 17 year old and a 14 year old. I'm already catching flak from the older one for how boring it is to drive across the country and visit national parks so I thought I'd change it up and make them ride this all day on the third day of the road trip;

My ex had this rule, or sort of a philosophy I guess:

"Never feel bad about spending money on books."

And this made a lot of sense to me, at the time,

but this was before I actually realized

just how much money I am capable of spending on books

I decided to roll the dice, that my CV joint on my car wouldn't blowup, for a run up north out of city lights to see the aurora--& I'm so glad I did! Two shots from northern California: First is from Doyle & the second is from Frenchman Lake. What an amazing display! For a time the aurora covered a 180 degrees from east to west & was overhead & could be seen in the south! I shot these photos with a 15mm f/2.0 30sec ISO400.

Color photo of an aurora. The landscape is forested mountains with a tongue of a lake going from the lower left to lower central frame. A distant body of water can be seen past the tongue. In the sky there are stars. On the horizon, just above the low mountain ridge line, is a band of yellow-green. Blue is above that. Then red. Then purple. There are numerous vertical streaks as well.

I use a EF 16-35mm f/4L II for dark stuff, do you think that could work?
Thanks!
