At the end of 2020, I created this cover illustration for a recapitulating publication of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

Despite the negative events, the illustration needed a positive vibe. Hence the convivial snowglobe.

Created in Blender and rendered with Octane Render.

@daniel @mbt3d Recognizable. Coming from a time when there was no localization in the computer world (For example, the Commodore 64 computer OS was only English), I used to name everything in English: filenames, objects, materials, everything. But a few years ago I realized that using my native language is just a tiny bit faster, because I don't have to translate words first, even though that takes less than a second.

When I was a youngster in the late 1980s, I formed an Amiga game dev team with 2 friends.

Before making games, we started by trying to sell game music that used minimal RAM, made with our music editor SIDmon.

To promote our game music, this energetic music module was composed by our musician Ramon Braumuller. The file, including tiny sampled sounds, is only 22 kilobytes.

Our Amiga game Hoi was released worldwide on 3.5 inch diskettes in 1992.

This jolly tune was made by our composer Ramon Braumuller for level 3, where Hoi flies around with a jetpack. Our own music editor Digital Mugician was used.

The track was originally composed for our uncompleted 1988 game Ragnov.

#Introductie 1/4

Ingenieur fysica van opleiding, informaticus in de praktijk. Achtereenvolgens werkzaam aan de UGent, de VRT en nu al sinds mensenheugnis bij Bureau Bouwtechniek.

Ik programmeer graag (C#, .Net) en pruts graag in Blender 3D (www.blender.org). Dat laatste was voorheen vooral het programmeren van addons/plugins (in Python), maar de laatste tijd waag ik mij ook al eens aan het creatievere aspect: modeling, texturing, ja zelfs tot basis animaties toe.

@GuyLateur Ik zie veel overeenkomsten in onze hardware-historie. Ik had een Atari 2600, C128 en verschillende Amiga-modellen. Ik heb tussen de Atari en C128 ook nog een CBS ColecoVision gehad. Ook een puik machientje indertijd.

@GuyLateur Inderdaad, de ColecoVision had een maffe controller met een numeriek toetsenbordje er in, en Zaxxon was inderdaad een paradepaardje. Audiovisueel kon hij zich bijna meten met de C64. 👍 Good old days indeed. Dierbare jeugdherinneringen. 💚

@GuyLateur 👍 Wees er van bewust dat de accu voor de systeemklok van de Amiga erg lekgevoelig is, en de omringende hardware kan aantasten. Verder kan het harddisk-armpje/naaldje vastgeroest raken, waardoor je niet meer bij je data kunt komen. Ik heb met beide te maken gehad tot mijn spijt. 😢
