We thought we knew how Voyager would end. The power would gradually, inevitably, run down. The instruments would shut off, one by one. The signal would get fainter. Eventually either the last instrument would fail for lack of power, or the signal would be lost.

We didn’t expect that it would go mad.

The UK government recently changed the law to ban company names containing computer code, after Michael Tandy of Hatfield registered a company called “; DROP TABLE “COMPANIES”; — LTD,” which could theoretically erase the companies house database. https://www.parallelparliament.co.uk/mp/alison-thewliss/bill/2022-23/economiccrimeandcorporatetransparency#9369E91A-2B4D-445F-A66B-1A5071727932

"I do have One Weird Trick that I have found incredibly useful to re-enter flow and continue working on large problems: Before stepping away, leave the code in a state where it is Obviously Broken, but Easy to Fix."

I do the same with writing. Leave a paragraph unfinished. The next morning, I have to complete it... and I get back into the work.

TIL In the early days of the U.S. space program, NASA didn't offer astronauts life insurance for in-flight missions, and private life insurance was extremely expensive. To get around this, the crew of the Apollo 11 mission signed hundreds of autographs for their families to sell if they died. If the mission went wrong, NASA planned to cut communication with the astronauts and let them either suffocate or take their own lives. https://bigthink.com/the-past/apollo-11-plan-b/

Standard: Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents. And then the dragons arrived.

Writers: Use the beginning of your work in progress.

Healthcare organizations are motivated to improve their relationships with customers, members, and patients. And then the dragons arrived.
