    CS50's second week has a couple of exercises that encouraged you to use ASCII tables to manipulate characters (checking passwords, scoring scrabble words, etc.). And they're fine, but I cannot apply any of that to my language (Spanish) or any other that is not "American", and any code I write using those skills would be severely "unportable".

    Two 1897 illustrations of the vulva from " An American text-book of obstetrics: For practitioners and students"

    The vulvas have been presented side-by-side to show the differences between the vulvas of a "virgin" and a "married woman". This is a myth; sexual activity does not change the appearance of the vulva.

    Some people might be unaware of this, but if you register an online account somewhere, choose a password, and they email you something containing your password, like "welcome, here's your registration details email/pwd", that is a red flag. They should NOT know your password.

    I don't want to get back to the old days of save points only in certain places, But these had a psychological effect "it's a feature" where it was such a relief to find them. you felt safe, accomplished, like tiny milestones, a lot of game design around these too.

    @djlink Aren't there a a lot of modern games with this feature?

    Again I have to ask, what are ~USD 3 000 that Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology charges for publishing being used for if they can publish such utter nonsense.

    What should be the response to an author submitting such an obviously nonsensical figures, the editor accepting, and the reviewers who let it pass? (Also, read the quote by one of the reviewers, who basically said that it wasn't his responsibility to check the figures).

    Bizarre drawing of a rat with a dissected penis whichis twice its body in size and is labelled with nonsensical text such as Dissiliced, sentollcstem cells, and dck. THe caption of the figure reads "Spermatogonial stem cells, isolated, purified and cultured from rat testes"

    Another demo reco on Steam: Synergy (Q2 2024)

    It's an environmental city builder on an alien world with a beautiful art direction inspired by Moebius. And it's a neat city-builder, time flies when you're playing it!

    Then you soon realise that you have to take your environment into account...

    Been trying this out secretly for the past few weeks — a "catch-up" timeline page. Did whole bunch of iterations, where I myself is the guinea pig, but this time reaching a point where I just got to share it out in the public.

    • NOT final design, still very experimental, only on my local machine
    • Instead of algo timeline, this is focused on data-grid-like UI for configuring exactly what I want to see.
    • This honestly could be another full-fledged app/client by itself 🫠

    Demo of Catch-up page where it shows the Home/Following timeline with configurable filters and sort options.

    Weird question:

    So, one possible nearterm use for AI is as a concierge for purchases, e.g. "find me the best place(s) to buy the following 14 spices online; my budget is 60 dollars" How does this affect advertising? Meaning, part of why advertising works is individual people don't have the time or expertise to do a careful analysis about quality and cost, so brands try to capture attention and then to display quality/desirability.

    @hrbrmstr @danwwilson AHH, you're right! Now it's time to remember all those ads in linux podcasts. There's also ZeroTier. Is there any difference?

    eliocamp,
    @eliocamp@mastodon.social avatar

    @danwwilson @hrbrmstr @tailscale Does it work for accessing the internet through my home server? That's the use case I'd need (I basically want to let someone else access netflix using my IP so netflix doesn't complain about the device not being in the same "household").

    eliocamp,
    @eliocamp@mastodon.social avatar

    @hrbrmstr @danwwilson @tailscale Ok. I think I got it. My main critique is that adding a new user/device is super complicated and the path of least resistance is not correct (at leas on Android).

    download android app -> sign in with google -> you're in a different tailnet. Instead, you need to sign in with other, put your email and then select the tailnet.
