I saw the take of “why should we forgo seeing other’s facial expressions for a minority” re: the idea of a masked tech conference earlier.

I’m sure there’s a few folk who think this, and think they’re being reasonable.

It’s not. It comes from a position of “fuck anyone who knows they’re vulnerable”, and ignores the fact that people are still spreading a disabling airborne virus.

a) it’s fiction, why not cast parts with actors who aren’t white?

b) a cursory search throws up https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z8gpm39 and I’m sure other European countries in Central Europe will have also had folk from Africa there, in those times given you’d likely travel through or past them to get to Britain.

Were you trying to make some sort of point or just being racist?

The perfect ending to a grumpy day: I managed to knock a plant off the window sill in our toilet, and get earth everywhere.

On a brighter note, it was easier to just clean the whole room up than simply vacuum the mess. So that’s one less chore for the weekend 😅

My hobby (film development and printing) is really only possible because of the density of burned out hardware and software engineers with time and money, and a deeply autistic interest in making things work (just spoke to the people who set up my community darkroom. They bought out gear from labs which closed, and fixed it up.. this doesn’t really exist anywhere else)

I have a color darkoom I can use! (They rebuilt some color processors, it was pretty gnarly)

@BlackAzizAnansi in New Zealand we managed to keep Covid out, and had a public health policy that was largely following science. We managed 18 months, and it was great.

Researching things... Looks like only the Pixel 8 Android phones have HDMI output on them, out of that range.

I don't want to buy one yet, but I can envision getting one for cross-platform dev later this year and HDMI output combined with the ability to install Grapheneos or some other more degoogled OS will be what I'm after.
